Does Seadoo limit its top speed on there turbo charged engines. I have a 2008 GTX 215 model and it doesn't want to go passed 70mph. even with two grown men as passengers it has no problem getting to 70mph, but doesn't go passed.

Don't get me wrong, 70 is plenty fast. but I was just wondering if they do limit there engines.

Is there any known way to "bypass" this limiter? Like on a Diesel for example, you can buy chips that take off the limiter.

Might be a newbie question, sorry :hat:

NO, the only way to change anything in the running parameters is to have the dealer change the settings in the computer...and a record of this is always in the memory as to which dealer did it ... Seadoo doesn't allow the parameters to be changed that extreme. Its a safety issue seadoo upholds.

I see, Thanks :)

speed info?

How does the ski (computer) know how fast it is going?
Does it use the wish sensor or just rpms?

I would think making a few easy changes to the ski would let the ski go faster than 70 mph

i think low to mid 60s it plenty fast enough for my 9 ft xp

i do need to check it with my gps

ps with my wife driving and both of us on my xp, we fell off when doing only about 45.
The straps on the life saver pulled so hard that it cracked 1 and maybe 2 of her lower ribs and i am really sore because of the straps too.

water gets really hard when going that fast.

Federal speed mandates?......

I have been searching for definitive proof so that when making this statement, it's backed up with research......problem is, I can't seem to find it now.

There is "supposedly" a mandate by the U.S. Coast Guard in agreement with the NTSB, that no manafacturer of a personal watercraft build a craft that will exceed 70 mph. This was enacted in 1999 (if I remember the article correctly) and hasn't changed since them. At the time, PWC's were mostly limited by engine design. But todays craft can easily pass that.

The supercharged 4-TEC's could probably be tuned to exceed 80 mph with engine displacement easily exceeding the 255 horse power rating.

The only thing the government can't control is modification kits. You can find these adaptable with the RIVA stage kits or GroupK performance.

There have been several members ask me how to make their ski go faster. I know that need for speed. I lived for it!....I learned to build and modify V-8 engines to just that but now, with safety in mind, I'd like to ask any of those who want to mod their PWC's to go over 70 mph to do me one favor. Take your ski to 70 mph, WOT, then, lean over and fall off of it. After you've felt that water at 70 mph, then, if you still want to mod, give me a shout. I'll help you go (kill yourself) faster!

I wish I can find the page where I saw it but it claimedthe fastest ski in world did 99mph or sumtin. damn thats wicked fast.

I dont have a ski but im getting one and ill be moding it... I need to try and keep up with my friends 32ft scarab witch will do 80mph. I was on a 31ft scarab today doing 100mph and we were hitting waves coming right out of the water and going almost vertical so speed doesnt scar me iv hit water at 60mph befor and wasnt a big deal... I look at it this way id rather fall off a ski doing 70-80mph and hit water then falling off a bike doing 70-80 or ever fast and hit ashfalt.

Man you guys are crazy. i gps'd my gsx @ 63.2 on flat water. that is fast enough for me, especially when your wife is back there giggling and squeezing the life outta ya every time you hit a wave and fly into the sky....... well the doo is fast enough for me. i rode a rxp last saturday and it scared the hell outta me. the acceleration was just amazing. i hit the gas and we both almost went off of the back of it!!!! like trying to hold onto a ski rope with 100lbs of sandbags strapped to your feet........

Mandate.....

There is no speed limit when it comes to "modifications" you make to your ski. But like I said, fall off a ski at 70!.....it's like hitting a brick wall. YOu can find many companies that make mods for these skis that will take you upwards of 80 mph.

But, you have to remember one thing. In most states, there is no specific speed limit in the water, except where posted. They have a law that states, you can be ticketed for unsafe speeds for the area or conditions your in. So, that leaves the door wide open for the Marine Police to ticket you, no matter how fast you go. So, if you mod, make sure you ride responsibility.....

I have a 96 sportster and would like to make it do 50+ 60 would be great anyone have any mods that can get me there?

:agree: mane thing is to be safe and have respect for the water, it not very forgive when stupid things happen. But as far as cops and speeding there no inforcement on my lake (lake erie) there are lots of cops and coast guards on my lake though. Also this doesnt really have anything to do with this thread but all the cops on my lake dont seem to have a good knowledge of it and there lots of sand bars and other hazards, I had a cop following me so i crossed over a sand bar and sure enough he fellowed me over ahaha dumn ass got stuck serves him right for buging people that arent doing anything wrong and for not knowing what he's doing. ALWAYS know the area your boating be safe.. i see so many dumn asses that hit the sand bar near my cottage. 2 months ago a 43ft fountian hit the bar and ripped both outdrive off $60,000 damage

Mods.....

There are several mods you can install on your boat to make it faster 96 Sportser. You can get the RIVA 1, 2 or 3 stage kits or change your impeller to a different pitch, but when you mod your engine, remember, your cutting the life expentancy of it too....

As for speed and cops......the Coast Guard and Marine police aren't really out to hassle you. They are looking for people drinking and driving their boats, which is a big problem in the south. Just last week, a guy ran into an island coming back from dinner, later in the evening, ejected his daughter and wife, they died.

Boating is fun, but drinking and boating is even more dangerous than drinking and driving.

Water speed limits are only set in certain areas, where they may guard the entrance to a marina or other area where people are present. But for the most part, you can go as fast as you want. But, if a Coasty or Copper see you driving at a high rate of speed, dangerously, or close to others that put them in harms way, they can pull you over and give you a ticket for reckless endangerment............
