What is this part that my little friend is holding up?

I actually have two of them, and cannot see where on the exploded diagrams this thing goes. I also did not order one from my parts dealer, so why do I have two?

Boat is all together, and I see no place where there is any allowable water to seep past where this boot should be.

It is NOT the boot that goes over the PTO. I got a new one of those and installed it.

It is 1" tall as pictured, about 3/4" inner diameter, 1-1/16" outer diameter at the thickest part, and 7/8" outer diameter at the thinner part.

Extra Parts?

O yeah, engine rebuild kits always come with an extra set of rings fer the pistons!

(At least that is what I thought, when I rebuilt a Jeep Cherokee, 1976, 401 engine!)

:hurray::hurray::hurray:

:)

Oooh! Not good.

At least I know this isn't a piston ring :reddevil:

So, how well did it run, and for how long?

Well, it burnt alot of oil, without rings on a piston. We thought the rings were having a hard time seating. So, we sent 1/2 a box of baking soda down the intake, to get the rings to seat.
With rings missing, a good wad of it went into the oil, and tore up the mains and rod brngs.

So, replaced them all, again. And new rings on all, and flush it out, and re install it.

No fun. Happened during an ice storm, while working on a telephone cable spool, in the ice. (ice is distracting...)

this was a long time ago.

Now, back to the question at hand.

I think it is a replacement driveshaft boot. If the old one is good, you probably are ok. IF the old one is bad, maybe you should replace it.

Sorry for the hi-jack withe the story. It just came to mind. Kinda like pa kettle!

Which part of the driveshaft would this thing go on? Near the impeller, outside the boat, inside the hull, near the carbon ring?:confused::confused:

Rubber Boot

The part in the picture is the rubber cone that goes into the nose of the impeller. There should also be a plastic ring (not seen in your picture) that slides over it to keep tension on it.

OK, good. Impros told me not to use that with my new swirl impeller. They sent me a different rubber chunk that goes in there instead.

I actually had to call them because I couldn't figure out how that plastic ring went on with the rubber boot they sent, and they said to not use it with their impeller. The Skat Trak Swirl impeller has a different sized opening at this end.

At least I know that the boat won't sink if I don't use this spare part.
