Leaky J Pipe

i discovered my j-pipe has like 7 pin holes in it and it's spraying water onto the engine. can i repair the holes with something? the holes all seem to be in the same area right where the welds are. i have found a used j-pipe for sale at a reasonable price but it is a white label pipe and mine (being a 215HP engine) has and should be running a red label pipe. from what i gather the red label pipes are made from a more heat resistant metal. will the white label pipe really make a difference? has anyone used the white label when you should've used the red? what were your results? thanks!

If yours is like all the others, it is aluminum and is leaking at one of I think 4 or 6 plug that are used when casting the pipe.

The correct answer is to weld in place a plug over all of the casted marks on the pipe. Minnetonka4me has the plugs and can provide better details as well.

Not sure about the red or white label. But I assume your boat is a non-SC model. If so the BRP fiche call out the same part# 274001030 for both the first version and the second version Sportster in 06. Do you have any pics?

here is a pic of the jpipe and the red circle is showing where the pin holes are along the weld.

i have read a little more on this issue and it seems that seadoo changed to a different setup with a different waterbox and a midpipe in 08/09. has anyone with a ski/boat -08 changed to the 08+ setup? what all would i need to accomplish this?

Any J pipe would work, they are all the same. Some have switched to the new pipe and fittings. You would need the new waterbox, The part that replaces the J pipe, rubber coupler and clamps. It is a better set-up since most of the old style J pipes leak at the flex fitting at some point.

I bet if you take that too a muffler shop they could weld it closed. They would have the process to handle stainless.

I sanded the hole, then cleaned it with lacquer thinner. I put two coats of JB Weld on it, and it held for 15 minutes of full throttle. I will keep an eye on it

Considering mine is a 1995, and I got it for free because it came from the back woods, it was a good fix :)

yea but we are also talking about 2 different kinds of pipes. The 2 strokes had the leaks on the casting plugs, JB would probably hold. This is on a s.s. j pipe on a 4 stroke. If it were mine I would not trust it.

Let us know if the JB weld holds. I personally would think that the JB weld would not hold up the temperature abuse. Even though there is water injected between the two layers, it still can get very hot.

i tried using some of this stuff but didnt work. ordered a used jpipe. should be here this week hopefully.
