So I had the unfortunate event of hitting an underwater stump today on my Sea Doo Speedster. At first we though it was a decent gouge and that was that. After taking on a lot....and I mean a lot of water we decided to make a run for the dock. Unfortunately all we could do was troll since the engines would not preform as normal....that's atually secondary at this point. After getting it out of the water and inspecting, there is a one foot circumference hole in the hull at the very ends of the boat at the lowest point. Not enough to sink it thank god, but enough that it needs a major repair. Anyone have an idea on cost and if I'm looking at an engine problem from flooding of the engine compartment. The water did not reach as high as the engine, but it delicately took on water.

Thanks

I would like to see a picture. I can not imagine a 1 foot hole and it. It sinking and or flooding the engine.

I'll post a pic soon. It did not sink though. I'm just not sure if the twin engines took on water or if there was just was too much water weight on the boat along with the 6 people we had causing the no thrust. We were able to go about 7-8 MPH, but pushing the throttle any more just caused the engine to rev and the boat to vibrate.

With the 6 people and the water weight the boat had no chance to get on plane. If the engines ran the entire time to trailer, then no water damaged happened to the engine.

Pics

So here are the pics. It does not come through the hull visibly into the engine compartment. There is a bump out to hold the exhaust. I think the tricky part is how close it is to the fin....if I'm calling that the right part.

I have to admit, that's a pretty serious hit.

To do the repair professionally and through an insurance company would be many thousand IMO. Probably have to pull the motor and pump, do the repair, reinstall and align the engine.

Appreciate the insight. I'm not sure why the engine and pump would need to be removed and realigned as the damage is limited to the outside and did not impead into any part of the firberglass housing for the engine components. But I will definitely be taking it to a pro...and holding my breath.

Just because the hole seems to only be on the bottom, you'd still more than likely need to repair the inner side of the structure as well, hence the engine removal. That's a pretty serious hit. That repair will not be cheap.

I've done lots of fiberglass repairs and that one will be a real project. As mentioned, you have to get full access to both sides of the hole and put about 10 or so layers of glass on each side using a good epoxy for bonding. Ouch
