Im in the process of painting all my plastic parts. My question is for any one that has used krylon fusion. What did u use to clean the parts before painting? I started by painting the steering wheel center cover. I sanded it then washed it with soap and water and wiped it down with acetone. When I painted it the paint didn't stick and instantly pooled up in spots leaving areas unpainted.

Your procedure sounds O.K., I think the problem is your trying to paint the wrong type of plastic. I have had success painting hard plastic, steering wheels and softer plastics are not paintable.

I did the gauge cover and the handle bar cover on this last year.

Lou

Added: On the softer plastics try Mothers Back to Black.

If it's not flowing on smooth, and it's pulling up. (like fisheye) that's because of years of someone putting Armor-all over it. It's basically oil, and it gets down into the plastic, and the paint won't stick.

Also... what Lou was saying. If you are trying to paint a "Rubbery" surface... you will be better off using a Vinyl paint.

Dr. Honda that's exactly what its doing very large fish eye. What's the solution for that. It is the hard plastic cover on the steering wheel that has the bombardier emblem on it which i taped off.

on plastic... it's almost impossible.

Since you did your prep properly... that tells me it's chemical. You have to leach the oil out of it, without killing the plastic. (not easy to do) You could get a plastic primer over it... but then it will wind up, chipping off later.

I guess I would soak it in VERY hot water, with Tide, and then try again.

Needless to say... you need to sand off the paint again.

Personally... I would just put on a new steering wheel. I got mine from ebay for about $15 shipped. I made my own adapter... but it's just a standard 3/4" Tapered, keyed shaft. (you can use a generic boat adapter)
