KISS theory for 2011

I was sitting here (in cold, snowy Southern New Jersey) thinking about my 2003 gtx and my new helmet cam I got for Christmas.

Having vast mechanical experience (40+ years) I remember some easy traps I fell into over the last 7-8 years....involving overthinking problems.

Here is my advice on 2 very simple causes/ cures for many problems.

#1 Never assume that your battery is o.k. from year to year. If in doubt, replace w/original spec battery (or swap out with a known good battery).

#2 Never assume that your spark plugs are o.k. from year to year. If in doubt, replace (carefully) with original spec plugs (and carry spares).

The KISS theory means Keep It Simple Stupid and it applies to all of us.

Let's stick with what we signed on for....Keep It FUN and don't be Stupid.

I like your philosophy. I just put a trickle/float charger on the brand new Deka Marine Master that came out of the the boat before it went to storage, and was compiling a list of basic tools I need to carry on the boat.

Remembered the 16mm deepwell socket for the plugs, but did I remember spare spark plugs???? Noooooo

I don't want to carry so much crap that I can't take people with me, but I don't want to be stranded because I lack a simple tool....

Hmmm, you know a stainless 12ga would fit nicely in the bottom storage area....

The benifits of owning a newer boat is not having to worry about breakdowns as much...basic tools are all that should be needed.

Amen. I was, however, a boy scout and have always believed in being prepared! I know I can't plan for every possible contingency but I don't want to be a meathead either.....
