My 96GTI is pretty scuffed up on the keel line. I have repaired the damage, I will admit I'm a better wrench turner than a body man. Anyway I saw in another thread that someone had installed a hull protector on a boat and I thought why not on a PWC? This would cover the current condition and also prevent future damage.

The website says not for SeaDoo 4-tek, I assume 4tek's have different hull material than the 2-stroke, that's why I'm posting on the 2-stroke section.

Has anyone had experience using a Keel Protector on a PWC?

Lou, In case you have not read it yet, from their website.

Does KeelShield work on all PWC's ?
No, KeelShield will not work on the Yamaha VX 110 and the Sea Doo 4-Tec Hull design. KeelShield is 5" wide and the jet ski hull needs to be smooth with no ridges for the product to work. Please contact us if you have questions regarding your jet ski.

We have plastic docks that you drive up on. Is that a problem ?
Yes , because the material that KeelShield is made out of and the plastics the docks are made of grab and do not slide on the docks. We recommend that you do not install KeelShield.

Not cheap - 8 feet =$210

Overtons has something similar called Keelguard..about the same price.

I already read that, I don't have a 4-tek or a Yamaha and I don't use a drive on dock. I'm going to use it on my 96GTI, I thought I already stated that. I'm only planning on buying 4' about $100.00. The stuff is all about the same it's all made by 3-M, like the difference between Hydro-Turf and Black-Tip.

I really don't need to know what the website states, I already read it. What I wanted to know if anyone has installed it and if it effects performance of the ski.

Actually i took off the wood heel (too slippery on wood floors) and installed a hard rubber heel, much safer.

You might see me on DWTS one day :)

Yo Lou I wouldn't buy this product. There is another hull 3m clear protector that looks better.

I will see if I can find it again for you. The one I want to buy.

Where do you buy shoes with wooden heels? They don't have those over at the Walmart.

Sqrl,

I'm thinking it's gonna effect handling more than top speed, but I'm just gonna put it on the 96GTI, (the Buick), it's the only one that has been beached, to cover up the old damage and prevent future damage. Besides my wife usually rides this ski. I wouldn't think of putting it on the 96XP or the 96GSX.

I agree, I think the wooden heels would definitely cause alot of drag. :) Oh, the keel protector - well Lou, if you beach the ski alot, it may be worth sacrificing a couple mph on the top end to protect the hull. I know you are out just to have fun on the water, not to set any speed records.

Thumper,

Thanks for the info., now I'm not sure either. I'm gonna have to ponder this a little. Originally I thought to use the keel guard to cover the repair and prevent further damage, but I sure like the looks of this product.

Heck ya I think it is the way to go. no performance affected, no one will no it's there and piece of mind your hull is protected.

I'm definitely going to get the clear bra, just have to see if it fits in the budget for this summer. Still a couple things I have to finish up first that are higher priority e.g. New impeller Woot Woot lol.

I have to agree but in this case while I believe the repair I made is sound, it's not very pretty and the keel guard would cover most of the repair plus I'm thinking the keel guard would protect better for future damage. I'm not looking to make a trailer queen, in this case I'm more interested in function over form.

However I think I'll try the invisible mask on my 96GSX.
