ok, here goes...

I just bought a used 1996 Seadoo XP, the owner told me he bought it from a guy that modified and raced Seadoos. I'm new to PWC so I really need some advice, here's what I know.

1. The oil injection lines are cut and plugged - Is this OK or a problem, how do I know if it was done properly and it's my understanding is that my seadoo has a problem with that oil injection system so people have been known to disable it and just run pre-mix (50/1) is that correct?

2. The owner said that when he bought it, it ran great then started load up the same day.... he played with the carbs and eventually even switched out the carb jets trying to fix the loading up and running problem (would start but idle poorly and have no acceleration) He gave me the jets he pulled out of the carbs and the measures larger jet - 115 and smaller jet - 130. (He said he put in jets -10 from those, so I imagine he put in 105 and 120) in this dual carb setup

3. When I got the ski home I notice a ground wire to the ignition box was frayed and the temp switch was disconnected so I repair it and the ski started fairly easily. The skies now stars easily and even revs up good while sitting on the trailer. I have not had the ski in the water yet to see how it runs. I am concerned that if the previous owner played with the carbs, replaced jets and screwed with the H and L mixture screws the seadoo may be set lean and might damage the motor.

4. I believe the seadoo has aftermarket carbs... still Mukuni but not factory I don't think.

Right now I'm thinking I should take the seadoo to some water, put a new set of plugs in it and run it for 3-7 minutes at low speed, then check the plugs and see if there lean or rich. then adjust the carbs L screw as necessary. If this sounds right then at what increments should I turn the Mixture screw? then ride again. When I finally get the L mixture right then do the same thing only at a higher speed then adjust as necessary...is this train of thinking correct?

And could the jets that the previous owner installed be so wrong that the seadoo may run lean regardless of the mixture setting? I'm just confused and not sure where to start.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Dee
