I finally got my SeaDoos on the lake, only be very disappointed in their performance. I know these boats, they've been in the family for many years, but they've sat in the garage for the past few and now I've inherited them, only to find that they have a number of issues.
I would greatly appreciate any help anybody can offer in troubleshooting the issues.
They are both 1996, one is a GTX and the other is an SPX.
What I have done for the GTX, and what it's doing now.
- I have rebuilt the carbs with genuine Mikuni kits. Coming from the Superjet world, this isn't new to me.
- Replaced all of the fuel lines and filters.
- Replaced the wear ring.
- Replaced the bearings in the pump.
- Cleaned the RAVE vales.
The engine starts and runs nicely, and I don't have any complaints about how the engine is running, but the pump seems to be the problem. At mid-high to high throttle the pump cavitates REALLY badly. At low-medium to medium throttle it doesn't seem to cavitate, but it does seem to be underpowered. It feels like a pump issue, but I don't know enough about the SeaDoo pumps to say what the issue is.
The SPX hasn't had as much done.
- Fresh carb rebuilds and fuel lines.
Again, the engine starts and runs nicely but there is NO power. It almost feels like the splines on the pump have stripped or something. I'm sure I will have to take it apart to really see what's going on. But, when it's in the water I can clearly see a stream of water coming from the pump, but it has NO power. The engine will increase in RPM but you won't go any faster. In fact, you slow down. It's only at idle or barely off idle do you get any power whatsoever.
I'm fully expecting to have to take both pumps apart, but what should I be looking for? Is it possible there is an air leak into the pump? Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated!
