Hey guys just got a 97 challenger 1800. compression is good on both motors. dess lanyard is only bare rubber on inside, i was told it is supposed to have a magnetic chip visible? is that right. motors turn over only when the solenoid is jumped. no beeps unless i hit the port start/stop switch 5 times then i think i get 1 short beep, not real sure. any help would be appreciated. i already downloaded the operators manual and the 1997 shop manual.

Welcome Woody....

Welcome to the forum Woody and thank you for showing your support!

The DESS lanyard is a black plastic cap with a piece of metal inside that makes contact with the magnet of the post. You are correct, their is a ROM chip inside, but it's buried under the metal. I've never actually seen a chip. But it's suppose to be there.

You'll need to buy a new DESS lanyard and take it to your local Seadoo OEM shop and have them re-program your new lanyard to the mpem. You can buy the lanyard on the net for less than $50 bucks.........but if you buy from the Seadoo shop, they usually program for free. Takes them about 45 minutes or less.

Pushing the start/stop button 5 times puts the mpem in advanced diagnostics. There really isn't anything you can do till you get that DESS lanyard. I'd also recommend buying extras.
