Hi guys i'm new to this forum. I just picked up today a 96 Seadoo 650 XP for unbelievably cheap. The problem is, is that there is no motor or jet. I'm thinking about building up a motor and taking away the oil tank and straight mixing the gas with the oil so I know that it is getting the oil that it needs. Let me know if that would work and what else you would do!

iggys6 - welcome to the forum.
try asking nick - minnetonka4me or his brother Jess at 99spxxx and see if they have a motor and pump for you.

Do you need the mpem and other electrical stuff too?

Thanks for the reply, I will ask them tomorrow and I'm not sure about the mpem I saw something like that but I'm not sure if it's complete on it.

OK, before you go buying ANYTHING, get a list together of the items you need then price them out. This way you know what you are up against.
Do you have a "key"?
both electrical boxes?
gas and oil tanks?
anything in the jet pump area???....bearing, impeller, cone, etc??
Drive shaft?
carbone seal?

There's no such thing as a 96XP 650, a 96XP has a 787 also referred to as 800. Since you don't have a core you're gonna need to buy a used motor, also a used pump. Anything else missing, electrics, carbs, starter, mpem, air box, etc. ???

Someone correct me if I am wrong but the 96 xp didn't have a 650, it had the 787. The 94 xp had the 657 (650). Also, I don't believe you can take out the oil tank, you need the oil tank in there with oil for the rotary valve, even if you are going pre-mix.

Ok, I have the part where the key goes in but I don't have a key. I found one for $40.00 though. Also I saw a electrical box in the front and am not sure where the second one would be. I have all of the tanks but want to outdo the oil tank and just straight mix it into the gas once I get a motor. And no I have no bearing, impeller and cone and drive shaft. I'm debating on paying for a boatfax but am not sure if that will help me out with what size the motor is.

I just saw your post now, I am going to have too look into that because I don't trust not putting the oil in the gas.

Okay thanks, do you guys know of anyone that has a pdf service manual? I also want to check if the gauges will go on to see if I have most of the wiring if I just put a battery on it, I just need to get a key for it first.

You can get a service manual from this site if you join as a premium member, or you will have to google for one.

SeaDoo's don't have a key, they use a DESS and digital encoded system, and the mpem needs to be programmed by the dealer to the lanyard. Without a motor and other components I don't think this can be done. I don't think I would put a battery in the ski unless it's complete.

And yes you will need to keep the oil tank to lubricate the rotary valve gear.

Okay and I have the spot where you put the key in and it looks like its all hooked up, all I need is a lanyard and it's not saying anywhere online where they sell replacements that they have to be programmed.

If it's 95 or earlier, you don't have a dess lanyard. Are you sure which model/year you have? 94 xp or 96 xp. If 96, then yes it's dess. Just confused over your statement of "650 96xp"

What color is your ski? If it's yellow it's either a 95XP 800, or a 96XP, we really need to know the year. Also you tell the year by the last two digits on the hull identification no., it should also show on the title.

Lou

The last two are 96 and it is yellow, where I live you only need bill of sale in the last owners name

You don't need a title? Anyway yes your ski does have a DESS, so the dealer will need to program the mpem (the computer) to your lanyard. I would suggest you call your dealer before you take the ski to him to see if he can program the ski without a motor, I doubt that he can.

I also think you should take a breath, sit down and make a list of what the ski needs and how much it's going to cost. You've got a long laundry list, make sure the ski is worth the investment.

Also how much would you say they go for running used because I didn't even pay alot for this now.

I think I'm just gonna back off and let someone else help you, I getting tired of arguing about the details. I didn't just get a SeaDoo yesterday.

Not to mention all the money you will spend on parts, you will have a good bit of work on your hands. A good 787, complete pump/drive train, possibly a mpem, etc will be very expensive. I wouldnt have paid more than $100 for it.

No thats your electrical box.....the mpem is the other box..... CAN you post a pic of this ski for us please.....its hard to tell you things if we dont know EXACTLY what we are working with...... BTW that e-box is missing alot...this is going to cost more than you thinjk

ok you have prompted this question and im sure everyone wants to ask it......what happend to all the stuff.........motor,pump,electronics,etc......... it sounds to me like this ski was stolen and then sold to you since they never even had a title ...... go apply for one and see if they say its stolen before you go through all this hassle..... BTW im not trying to accuse anyone it just seems like that to me ...ive seen it before they steal it and strip it just like a car....but a jet ski is harder tpo track down....... also that ski is indeed a 787 or commonly known as a 800cc ........
