I just recently bought a 1996 Seadoo Xp for $100 not running for seven years. The guy who I bought it off of bought a two jetski trailer for $300 with the Xp on it without it running. So I went ahead and bought both for $400. Thought I was getting a good deal. I started to work on the thing, emptied out the old fuel, cleaned the plugs, and charged the battery. It started right up after I did this and me being me hurried right to the river without hooking it to the hose. I get to the river starts right up and I run it for about 10 min untill it shuts off. Not knowing the exhaust manifold has two small cracks in it leaking water right in to the hull. I fix this problem and run it for about 15 to 20 min. I take it back to the river and now it wants to only go 5mph and sputter like it wants to take off. It sounded electrical at this point. Some how I get the idea to look the the rear black electrical box and notice it was completely submerged in water. (This is why the previous owner got rid of it) So I drain the water out and notice the 15 and 7.5 amp fuse wires connected to the battery wire were disconnected. This is why it kept sputtering and wanted to take off. I reconnected with new wire connections and try to start it. Starts right up like nothing was wrong UNTILL the 7.5amp fuse wants to keep blowing after about 5 seconds of running. Not sure at all why this continues to happen!!!!!!! Some one came along and had the bright idea of putting foil around the 7.5 to keep it from blowing and sure enough it did not blow. I was a little weary about doing this but did not care once it started right up and sounded like it should. I ran it for about 20 min with the foil fuse and no sign of smoke, burning or heating wires/fuse. I take it to the river and it ran like a top!! This made me happy except for the fact of knowing foil was around the fuse. I continued to run the ski, ran fine untill it wants to start sputtering again at high rpm then to mid rpm. Once this occured I parked it and now im back at square one.
I have not replaced the two stroke oil yet and was about to try that out along with disconnecting the pump (which I may need some help). I have replaced the plugs and I examined them after my last run and noticed one was burning fine while the other was burning a bit ritch. And as for the fuse why does the 7.5 want to keep blowing. I would like to remove the foil knowing that it wont melt a wire. I apologize for the long post but it seems I should explain my self and hopefully get some insite on the problem. I have put alot of time in trying to get this running but keep running into kinks with it. If any other info in needed let me know and thanks for the help!!!
