Hello,

Having sold my Ski-Doo's last fall I just purchased a 2006 Speedster Wake 430 and while I am thrilled with it there are a few things I'd like to update and would love some guidance/help. I've only taken it out once and pulled the novice mistake of not closing the drain plug, but I realized this after we had only been on the water for 15 minutes, no issues. I did notice the following and since have searched some forums for advice, but thought it would be good to check here:

1. Porpoising. I noticed that we experienced a fair amount of porpoising, granted I'm in Seattle and the lake had a bit of chop on it, maybe 9mph wind, I definitely felt it bouncing. What is the best trim tab solution since the Sea Doo kit is no longer available?
2. It has the dual 215HP engines and I noticed that the throttles are not matched, when equal, one engine is about 15-25% higher in RPM's. Is this just a throttle cable issue or indicative of something more?
3. with the tower and big speakers, I am afraid of draining the battery. I'd like to be able to install a second battery, not sure of the best place, and have the engines charge both batteries when running and then when engines are off, run the stereo from the second battery only and not have it drain the primary, any ideas on placement and method for doing this?

Thank you,
Steve

Welcome, congratulations, and good luck!

A few people have installed Monster Tabs, on their boats and have liked the results. A quick search should bring that up.

There are separate adjustments for the throttle, on each engine. However, you want to make sure that is the problem. Have you checked the compression on both engines, changed the oil, plugs, and filters? Have you pulled the jet pumps and checked and greased the bearings? Have you gone over all fasteners in the engine compartment and made sure they are all tight?

Most important, have you serviced the SC's and made sure you do not have ceramic washers? If you do, DO NOT RUN THE BOAT, until they are out! They have been know to break apart and destroy engines...

Once you have done the above, then you should check and see if you still have sync issues.

There are also, multiple threads on adding a second battery.

Good Luck and welcome to boating!

Eclipse1701d,

Monster Tabs ehh, I will search and try to find a part number, I've reached out to both Nauticus Incorporated (Smart Tabs) and Lenco Marine, which I have heard others have used, both said they do not have tabs for this boat. I'm willing to sacrifice some speed for the stability. Of course it did not help that my inaugural trip was with a bit of wind. The previous owner took meticulous care of the boat and I have the service records so I will contact them about the ceramic washers. Currently I just manually match the RPM's, I was hoping it would just be a case of tightening a cable on the right throttle as it seems that engine lags behind from the very beginning.

Interestingly a service guy at one of the local Sea-Doo dealers told me they no longer work on the boats, yet in their second bay was a Challenger with a mechanic working on it and they were selling a 2006 Speedster 200 Wake 310..

I had the same problem with my boat when I first purchased it back in January (2008 Speedster 200 430). Apparently the oem theottle cables aren't of the highest quality and can cause these types of problems over time.. But I was able to fix mine by having my mechanic adjust the port engine throttle cable to more closely match the starboard engines throttle, although my mechanic did say that one engine will/should have a few hundred more RPMs than the other engine to counteract the impellers rotation and natural pull to one side. Don't know how much of that is true but he adjusted them to nearly perfect. I still have to stagger them slightly but it's not that bad. But I agree with eclipse, find a good mechanic and have him check everything out for good measure.

As for porpoising, I agree, it can be terrible. I may look into getting some tabs depending on how this summer goes but haven't done much research on them. Under the modify section, there are several folks that have added them with great success.

I'd also like to add another battery. I've read of folks putting it on the opposite side of the engine bay from the oem battery location or placing it right next to it. But in the meantime, you might just pickup one of those compact jumping batteries. They are super convenient and compact and can even charge phones, laptops, etc. that way, even if the batter does die, you aren't stranded.

Here is the one that I picked up for peace of mind.

This thing is awesome and can jump start a big truck engine! There are more powerful ones out there but this one will do just fine for our boats.

Joshdawg,

I talked to a local boat shop and they will assist with my items, still kind of disappointed that the local SeaDoo service guy was being such a pain. As most of the shops are closed on Mondays here, I will check around more tomorrow. If anyone has a recommendation for a great Sea Doo boat shop in the Seattle area, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm probably going to go with the adjustable tabs so that I can set them to "up" when at slow speed and not reduce my agility.

As for the battery location. I've heard of people putting it under the rear bench and others going on the opposite of the boat in the same location, though I did notice some other smaller pump is mounted there and would need to be relocated.

Funny that you mention the portable charger, I bought one for my wife from Costco last December and took it with me on Sunday, 1st trip with boat. While preparing to launch, another boat owner came up asking if we had jumper cables, I handed him my charger. He looked at me like "yeah right" and came back five minutes later with a big smile, it worked for him. I'm sure he will be getting one before his next trip.

Thank you,
Steve

That is a great looking boat! I have been looking for a nice, well maintained speedster 200 with no luck. I love the Sportster SCIC but I would love more room. Any updates with matching the throttle?

I had the same problem with the twin 215s on my 230 wake. The starboard engine would run several hundred rpm higher so I adjusted the throttle cable to compensate. Wondering now if it didn't cause some issues with the tps, as the same engine is surging when under load. See my post on that.
