Just added 2- 2000 seadoo RX's to the family

Sup...?

Just bought 2 seadoo 2000 rx's, should have a new engine for each and painted in a few months.

Ain't seen you around lately.. So, got a couple nice skis to bring out. Gonna take them to the next ride in? Come on, bring it on. I'll suck you up my jet pump with my little ole GTX........

Good to see you around.. Good luck with the new skis.

Yup, I think I am going to try having them rebuilt first before just replacing the engines, I am trying to find someone local that can rebuild 2 951 engines for me and possibly a 3rd as well, I have two froze from sitting on the back of a huge boat unflushed but they dont loo that bad at all and then 1 that just needs a top end! Wanna rebuild them for me?

951 engine rebuilds

If anyone is in the Sarasota, Fl area and is a professional in their trade I am possilby looking for someone to rebuild at least 2 and possibly 3 seadoo 951 engines, 2 are ocked up from not flushing but do not look that bad with less then 80 hours on each motor, I am looking for someone to rebuild them, shoot me some prices on rebuilds, 1 should only need a top end, the other 2 are froze so I am unsure of bottom end condition, prices have been checked I am looking around $150 each motor in machine work, parts vary depending on top end only or bottom end as well, I will have all engines removed from the ski's work if needed can possibly be done at my location. I am sorry but I am not looking for someone that does not actually know what they are doing or has not ne this before, I have a manual myself and if I wanted I could do the rebuild as well but I have never done it so I do not think its time for me to learn and I want these done within the next few months. I have priced everything already but I know that a person that does this all the time might have a discount on parts and if price is right I may have 3 engines for you that are all 951 engines from my own personal ski's. You don't need to remove or install them just have them on a bench and rebuild them after the machine work is done. Shoot me a top end rebuild only price and a price if top and bottom end need done.

I can replace the engines for $1000 each with warranty so total price really needs to be lower then that.

Ok, so I started taking the one engine apart, and it is worse then appeared, once I got the exhaust off because the other guy I bought them from could not figure out how to loosen the bottom nut, I started taking other parts off that needed to be removed, this is when the fun started, the first thing I did was start with the raves because the head was already off and it almost looked like the rear rave was touching the piston, to I took the front rave out, it did not slide right out it was gunked up with more carbon/oil then I have ever seen but still came out pretty easy next was the rear one so its unbolted and I start to wiggle it and its not budging, next I tap lightly on it while pulling yup still not budging, so next I take the rave apart and try to only work with the actual metal rave and its not budging, so at this point I try some pb after a few hours still not budging im like ok who cares it needs to come out so I will just replace it, yes this was better said then done I put vise grips on the valve and pulled up still no give so same and I tapped on the vise grips with a small hammer, finnaly it gave and came out bad news is the only thing that came out was the part sticking out of the cylinder, so then I go on and say some nice words and thank it, and I pull the studs for the cylinders as the pistons are froze so I want to see what the lower end looks like, once again its not giving at all, no biggie I know the pistons need to be replaced so I fill up with some mystory oil and let sit for a day and try using a block of wood over the piston and tap it, then hammered the wood pretty hard as the wood wont hurt anything, yeah still no joy/no give to it the cylinders will not budge, so monday I am going to pull the exhaust manafold the rest off the way off and the carbs, then I will try again at the pistons and cylinders, I have to get them unfroze otherwise its a shot in the dark what the bottom end looks like, I need to be sure beforehand if I need to rebuild or replace but this engine here is wanting to be a pain in my, so yeah I hope the other ski's engine shows me a little more respect.

So just need to buy another part now, a used rave. I just love the cost of parts on these. Nothing is ever easy when they dont take care of them.

This thread needs pics! Sounds like she's fighting you a bit but I'm sure you'll hammer it out.

Silicone spray needs to be an essential part of any owner's tool box....helps a lot.

Ok so here we go, this is the worst of the 2 engines, these pics will show what I am dealing with right now but are also to show the buyer beware, with me I already knew what I was buying but for those of you that are looking to buy a used ski please do your homework and have them checked out if you are unsure, like I said I already knew what I was buying but alot of people out there see a nice clean ski and think hey with it being clean and only 80 hours on her it had to be well taken care of........or was it?

So these where sitting under an oak tree when I picked them up, the first pictures you will see are after only 2 hours of cleaning, take notice how nice these skis look......yeah thats where some people will get you too. Make sure to check what you are buying while these skis need major engine work and some light fiberglass repair to the one everything else is in very good condition and if you look around and find a deal like this it is hard to pass up if you do send it my way!!!! lol

Anyways lets get started with the pics first we have a photo of external shots of them together.....

Now lets get to the good stuff, at this time these next pics are the current condition, I am fighting trying to get the cylinders off the pistons with no luck yet and marvel oil and pb blaster are not helping, you can see how this engine was not flushed nor really cared for in any way shape or form, look how nasty the build up is in the engine and on the raves and how the one rave broke off in the cylinders, next look at the exhaust manifold and pipe and notice how they where never flushed, but a little bath in some acid or a trip to a machine shop or my sand blaster will fix that problem. You never would have known this engine was this bad without a tear down, I am not saying be scared of all used ski's just know that you cannot judge a book by how nice it looks! lets move on now to the next series of pics....

Now oddly enough the same owner owned both of these ski's this engine above is the worse of the the 2 and this engine has had no corrosion spray on it yet the other engine from op to bottom is covered in it.

Now at this time the lower end condtion is still unknown untill I get the pistons unfroze but judging from the top end I don't expect any better from the lower end, I would be happy as an ape to only have to redue the top ends however I have a 99% feeling that the bottom end will need work done as well, I do tons of work to these things but have never rebuilt them before, nor will I start to learn now as the bottom end on these 951's looks aggressive to learn on so I will be looking for assistance to possibly rebuild as I am hoping for the best and hoping I don't have to replace the motors.

I will be continuing this thread step by step as much as I can, the more I tear down the more I will list and post more pics, overall if you can find a set of skis like these for a smoking deal I would grab them, even the vts systems both work flawlessly,

Also the reason i stated this was a smoking deal is because these used near me run anywhere from $3200 to $4000 each and none have as low of hours as these so even at that lowest value I would have to invest $2800 into each ski before I went over the value of buying one used, yes this means I paid $400 each for them. There is no way I will even end up investing half of that into each, If I can get away with rebuilding them I shold have about $1200 into each with the other small repairs and painting them, now add 2 new dess keys, programming, hydro turf , stickers and new seat upholstery and I should by the time it is done have only around tops $1500 into each and that figure is if I have to invest in rebuilt engines to replace mine being at $1000 per engine, I would then have about $75-$100 into paint work each that is then the other parts, I may have toinvest more then $1500 invested into each, that is of coarse figuring in what I paid for them. This project has to and will get done, but I will not have anything close to that of a used ski price into them......that is unless things go very wrong...............But hey this is marine field and we know everything works out exactly as we plan for......:rofl::rofl::rofl:

But in all seriousness I plan to try and only invest around $1200 into each so to have only $1600 into each if I am lucky, I am hoping to get away with top ends only but I doubt it.

Well everything has been soaking in pb now for 3 days, the rave is still no joy it will not budge so I figured I would remove the exhaust manifold with the rave attached then I would worry about it, so since this is the motor without anti corrosion lube I knew I would have problems, very first bolt seemed like it was going to snap but was turning so I fed it some pb and came right out as did all the rest except for the front top one, this bolt decided to give me problems, someone had already tried taking it out and had part way striped the alen head in it, well a tap of the hammer and then tried turning and I stripped it the rest of the way, I guess I am going to have to pull the engine now to get that bolt off because I will not cut it off or use heat right next to that plastic gas tank!

stay tuned for more joy from this ill cared for engine!

ok, just pulled the carbs and the intakes then the reeds, oh yeah looks very nice the entire case is full of oil and a small amount of fuel, maybe nothing is rusted! lol I have no clue how they filled it with oil!

Correct but silicon spray is not a penatrent, gotta use something like pb for that, silicaon spray is good but it gets very tacky and stuff sticks to it.

These are the pictures taken through the intake ports and its hard to see but the entire crankcase is full of oil amoung other things.

Sadly after seeing this I now know the lower end on this engine will need to be serviced and at the very least cleaned and relubed again, the good news is I was expecting it to be full of water and rusted but it as I was happy to find no water just oil.

Well bad news as I figured, I pulled the other reed and was rusted solid in the crank area the other engine exact same, so both rx's will need new engines.
