Jetpump, oil seal replacement: new smaller parts

I hope for your expertise because my German BRP dealer has no experience with older Sea-Doos.

I needed to replace the oil seal in the jet pump of my GSX Limited from 1999. The original part number is 293200025 and it is called a double lipped seal - which matches the part I disassembled - it has two lips. But the replacement (new part number: 267000094) has only one lip and is smaller in height. But not small enough to just put two of them in the jet pump.

Can you help me out here?

Hey Jona, Where are you getting your parts from? I've run into the same problem, but then I buy most parts from eBay, much cheaper than OEM. The only double lipped seals I've seen are used ones I took out of a pump. Have yet to see a new seal with a double lip. With that seal on the forward end of the pump, it seems like keeping the water out is as important as keeping the oil in, that's why its suppose to have a double lip. Anyway, I've been using the single lips with the lip to the inside of course, without water intrusion, so they do work. One good thing about these seals is that they contact the impeller shaft in a slightly different spot, usually. The shafts get worn a bit from the seal friction so being in a fresh place on the shaft aint a bad thing. Press it in squarely and use synthetic grease on everything.

Hey Don, thanks so much for sharing your experience with this! I bought the replacement from an official BRP dealer and it came in the official packaging. I was (still am) quite nervous having only one seal between ocean and gear fluid as well, but happy to hear you haven’t had something bad happen with it so far.

The new oil seal is also smaller in height: Do you press it all the way in or just so that it sits flush with the top of the pump housing?

I put them in until the outer surface of the seal is flush with the surface of the housing. There's a special tool for getting the depth of the needle bearing correct, but also a measurement you can go by in the manual.
