jet pump rattling?

when I have my sportster out of the water and hooked up to a hose and idling, it makes a loud rattling noise, I understand that my year setup doesn't have pump oil, it has grease inside the cone. I have heard that you only need to change grease when you have to take the unit apart for some reason, but shouldn't need to touch it otherwise, I am curious if that is true, and if my year boat has the anti rattle cone inside, so then I shouldn't have any rattling, my cone doesn't have a fill plug on it, that would explain that there is no oil to change, and my boat only has 35 hours on it. Motor sounds nice and smooth, but the rattle is pretty loud, is this normal

06 4-tec rattling...That's a new on on me. give the jet pump a good check over I haven't heard any newer seadoos rattle.

My 08 rattles also with 5hrs on the clock. If this isn't normal i'll have to bring it to the dealers attention when I take it in for the 10hr check-up.

don't know if anything can be damaged from this rattle, I know that older year models 80's and 90's use to rattle, because they didn't have anti rattle cones, I was just looking over the 2006 shop manual and it doesn't look like there is a anti rattle inside, because the cone is full of grease

if it sounds like a bell it is just normal. not too much to go wrong here. when out of water the ping and sound crazy. there are harmonics at work here is all. unless you have a bearing problem, but you would ten notice more than rattles.

I would have thought that after the anti rattle cone design came out that things would only get better, why would a newer model seadoo have any type of rattle, it does sound something like bells, and I guess if I had a bearing issue you would feel that on the water

Dont worry - this "bell" sound is a part the fun and is not a sign of something being wrong. I have had it on all of my SeaDoo's - RXP, Sportster, XPDI and now on both enginge in the Speedster.
I confronted the dealer on this the first time I heard the "bell". I was sure something was very wrong. The explanation was that the sound came because the impeller was without load and that the impeller is connected to the driveshaft via splines. And between these splines and the shaft there is a small gap(tolerance). This gap allowed the"shaft" to "ring" the impeller.
Later, during a routine change of the wear ring I tried filling the splines and shaft with some stiff grease....to take a way some of the "ringing" :-) Actually it killed the "bell" but only for a short time-the the grease were probably distributed to other places.
