jet pump oil changing question

I own a 99 GTX LTD and have changed the jet pump oil by myself for years without a problem. I have never used a device to pressure test the pump after changing the oil. The PWC operates as good today as it did when I bought it.

Does any one advocate the use of the pressure tester. Am I making a mistake not purchasing this device?

Thank you for the reply............Tony

No...not necessary.

No, it's really not necessary, unless your having problems with your bearings. For instance, anytime you change this oil yourself, if the oil is a milky yellow looking color, then that signifies that your forward seal is leaking water in. This in turn means it's time to do bearings, or at least try and replace the seal.

Oh, BTW, when you pull the cone to change the oil. Your only changing about 1/10th of the oil. The cone is only the fill and reservoir to the pump housing. The oil is stored mostly in the pump area behind the bearings.

Thanks....and.....

Thanks for the reply. I have been changing the pump oil in the cone every season. I'm wondering if it would be smarter to pull the pump and change the seal and oil in its entirety every other year?

Is that overkill? Maybe like you said, just see if the oil is milky and if so then change the seal.

Thanks again.........Tony
