Jet Pump Leaking...

I recently replaced my jet pump on my 1997 gts with an aluminum pump but put the 1997 anti rattle cone on the pump. Took it out last weekend and it runs great but on Monday night I noticed it was leaking pump oil.

I assumed it was the seal at the cone but it is coming from the front of the pump on the impeller side. I took the fill plug out and it blew some oil out due to being pressurized. The oil level is just below the threads on the plug.

What would cause the pump to build internal pressure like this?

bump. No one has any ideas? The only way I fluid coming out of the front of the pump would be from the seal leaking at the impeller.

Could be o-ring that seals the cone with the jet pump housing or the fill plug is stripped out and letting water in.

Two seals........

There are two seals on the pump housing. The seal at the cone, an "0" ring type and the seal in the forward end, where the impeller shaft comes through. When you replace or rebuild the pump, your suppose to put a pressure test on it to make sure the pump is not going to leak and get water inside.

You said you had pressure behind it. That leads me to believe your seal is good. The level in the pump should be just right below the threads. The most important thing here is the color of the oil. If you use a straw and stick it in and draw a sample out and drain it into a cup, as long as the oil has no yellowish color to it, I wouldn't worry about it. That says your not getting water in the bearings.

You may have just added to much oil....

I am thinking that it may have had a little too much oil. Since i removed the fill plug releasing the pressure it hasn't leaked since. I put it all back together and am taking it out again today to see if it does the same thing. I know the oil does not have water in it so that is a good thing and the cone is not leaking at the o-ring seal.

Sounds like your good to go. Frikn raining all day here, wish it would stop. :toetap05:
