Im changing the pump oil right now and just got the cone off to drain the oil out and i find what may be a grey grease possibly in here. Its kind of the consistency of tooth paste ish maybe not quite as thick but around there. Not sure if its grease or what. I plannedon draining and refilling with my mobile1 75-90 for now but am kinda at a stand still after seeing this... ill try to attach a pic...

Ive never seen gear oil turn to this type of paste when mixed with water before. Does this happem to the seadoo oil? Or is this something else in there?

Well that was gross lookin. Anyway its filled with oil again now. Still waiting on O-Ring so i just reussed the current one for mow. It looked fine after an inspection. But ill be more than likely doing this again with a new o ring some day this winter. For now I know there is no water in there to freeze.
Whoever had it apart last had also put what looked to be dried red loctite thread locker around the surface mating the nozzle portion to its mounting surface. None on the cone area. Not sure why that would be needed in that spot. Where should the red loctite actually be applied when doing this maintenance process?

That is water contamination. Oil and water trying to mix. You need to determine if it is the front seal or the cone o-ring leaking.

The red Loctite is actually 518 Anaerobic flange sealant and is used from the factory. I use it on all of mine just like the factory did.

Im thinking it is from the front seal. Based solely on the fact that when i cleaned it out I let it sit for awhile and when I looked again, there was a little more coming in through what must be what you are calling the front seal.?.
How hard it it to change this front seal? Need to remove it or can i do it from right there? And finally is this another discontinued item?

Ok so I've been thinking and I know I am not taking on any water in to the hull. When I had it on the lake originally after purchasing I did not take on ANY water at all. So, where are the possibilities for water to be coming in to the cone? Obviously maybe a failed/pinched O-ring on the cone itself. Or possibly the fill plug screw not sealed properly. Are there other possibilities where I could have got water in the cones oil given my particular situation?

Not sure what type of boat you have, but they do put grease in those cones on some of those. I went to get my pump oil changed at dealer once on my 2010 challenger and he said they put grease in there.

Curious what the mechanics on here have to say on this.

Me too. I had that thought and figured maybe it was grease. Especially because I have never in my like seen water turn gear oil in to anything close to that. It was thick and "pasty" basically like grease but grey instead of red or blue or white. My boat is a 1997 Challenger.
My parts have finally made it to the border and cleared customs so Ill be draining it again unless I find out otherwise ill be filling with oil again. Hopefully someone can specify particulars and clear up the situation for me before then. As far as I can find so far I only see oil as proper fill for the cone.

Thank you for the clarification once again kind sir. Oil it is again, when my OSD parts arrive this coming week.

Pressure test your pump even if it was grease it still is water contaminated.on the front of impeller shaft there is a seal and it's prob leaking

After some research I think it is going to be a 1/8" npt fitting ill need. My quwstion is now, can I use the hand vacuum pump I have for bleeding brakes or does it HAVE to be pressured up rather than a vacuum test?
