I am trying to change the jet pump oil on my 95 HX and one of the four bolts that holds on the rear portion will not come out! The bolt just turns and so does the nut but I cant get a wrench around the nut.

Has this happened to anyone else and how should I go about fixing this.

I have tried but there is plastic surrounding the nut, I guess I could cut the plastic away but It is really hard to get any tool back there.

first spray the bolt/nut with some pb blaster....then wedge a flat head screwdriver in the back in between the plastic and the metal nut and try that first, the flathead should wedge in there and stop the nut from slipping/spinning in the housing.

Plastic...

The fasteners for the bolts are molded plastic to help hold the nut as you take the bolt out. If your plastic has given way and it's just spinning, then it may have been replaced with the wrong size or it is seized and when you tried to remove it, it spun past the plastic.

You might find yourself with a dremel and cutting tool so you can cut the plastic out of the way to get at the nut if it's not recessed into the pump body.

Does anyone have a link to a sticky with pictures on how to change jet pump oil? ive never done it and have no idea where to start.

undo the 3-bolts hold'n the cone, use a rubber mallot LIGHTLY to pop the cone off, tilt front of ski/trailer, as high as it can go, then re-install cone, tilt trailer far down, then remove the "allen set screw" in the cone, and fill with, I use Mobil Synthetic Gear Lube 75w-90

How to change the oil

It's not hard to change the pump oil remove the bolts for the steering and trim 8mm to 10mm next remove the 4 bolts holding the pump housing usually 13mm becareful not to lose the two o rings on the top of the housing next remove the three bolts 10mm on the cone and gentle tap the cone with mallot and pull the cone off. be careful not to damage the o ring. clean out the cone with parts cleaner and tip ski to get the old oil out. next put the cone back on losen the allen bolt in cone so you can fill the oil back in. finally put bolts back in putting thread locker on the threads of bolts and tighten them back in and reassemble in reverse of removal.

Hope that helps and your pump will only take about 4-6 ozs of oil.
good luck and

Pull the complete pump off. Then you can break away the plastic nut housing with a small chisel and a screwdriver. When you install the new nut housing, be careful not to over tighten.

My old pump did this when I took it off and using a flat head screw driver to wedge it in there worked for me.
