Did you get scared???

Anyway.... I'm getting ready to put the boat on the back of the truck, and pack up for a long deserved vacation. We are going down to Deep Creek MD for a 4 day weekend. (Just in time for the hurricane rain to hit up here) BUT... I don't care. I figure today, and tomorrow will be fine. Sunday may be wet... so we will do some indoor activities, and sight seeing.

I'm not sure if I'm taking a computer or not. So... I may not be around much until Monday night.

See you guys later.

Dang Tony you just scared the hell outta me. I was thinking the only advice I can get now is from Jake and Lou and you know how suspect that advice can be! JK Jake and Lou. Anyway, have a great weekend.

Tony,

Have a great time and a safe trip. We're staying around for the weekend but we plan to spend a lot of time at the lake this weekend. In fact we're headed out now.

Lou

Tony and family, Hope you have a great trip. The rain from Isaac is SW of Michigan right now, we will get rain on late Sunday/early Monday so it might miss you all together......unless you run into a different rain storm.

Have FUN. Im thinking you should be able to have some fun before the rain hits. It was suppose to hit here in KY yesterday and it still hasnt. I think its really slow moving. I actually got the boat out yesterday and had some fun.

Hi guys,

We still have another day down here... and it hasn't been too bad. We had perfect weather on Friday (sunny and warm)... and nice weather on Sat. (overcast, but warm) But late last night, the hurricane finally showed up. So, the poor Islandia got a little wet. Since this is a Merc boat... it is able to be safely left in the water... but I was worried about the rain, and finding a sunk boat this morning. But as you guys can imagine... I put in a new 1100 GPH auto bilge pump. I went out this morning, and checked the bilge... and there was some water in there... but it was well under the engine mount. So... either pump was doing it's job, or it just didn't take on much water from the rain.

The lake water is very clean, but there is grass in the shallows. But, having the jet boat is nice. Most of the restaurants and attractions around the lake have their own docks. Well... as you get close to shore, it get's shallow, and grassy. Because of that the I/O and outboard guys stay away... but the islandia only needs 12"... so I could park up front. (lol)

Oh... I discovered something very cool about the islandia. With only a couple people on board, you can set the power at about 3500~3800 RPM, and you will be plowing water. BUT... it makes a HUGE wake/wave. I bet there was a 3' tall wave about 10' off the transom. So... next season, I'm going to try wake surfing.

I'll post a few pics later

Finally........

Anyone who said maneuvering a jet boat is hard... is DUMB !! I went out early yesterday morning to practice a little docking with this beast... and you can truly use the jet to your advantage. I can do pin-point parking on a long dock... and I can stop, and rotate (180 turn) in it's own space. I was watching a pontoon boat trying to do the same thing... and I could hear his gear box grinding, and he wound up smashing into a slip. (no damage, so it was funny)

You probably don't have time to check it out on this trip but for the future, Seneca Rocks is 1.5 hours directly south of Deep Creek. It is really cool! We did a horseback trail ride (Yokum's Stables) to the top a few years ago. At the top you can climb up the rocks to the top where it is just a few feet wide, and look down the vertical sheer rock cliff then turn around and look down the other side. Plus the ride thru Canaan Valley is awesome. You can encounter a few scenes from Deliverance though.

If you go to Yokum's Restaurant, if you ask for a knife, they only have 1. They bring it out from the kitchen and stand there and wait for you to use it...And don't even bother asking for napkins.... It's worth stopping in just to hear stories from the owner, Shirley.

Also down there in the little town of Parsons, WV, they have a war memorial with 4' tall soldier statues that look like aliens. Pretty funny to see.

Hi Guys,

The day started ugly... and cleared up by 2:30... and we had a great day. Here's a few pics. The first is the view from my room. ( you can see the Islandia) Then a couple of the fam.

It's a lot of work to go on vacation... so I'm going to sleep. (heading home tomorrow)
