Islandia Question

Hello all, I am the new owner of a 2005 Islandia. We took it out for our first run yesterday and had a blast for a couple hours.

Towards the end of our outing, we were forced into a shallow part and sucked a rock into the impeller. At first we didn't know what was wrong, it just would run very rough and lose all power if the RPM went over 3k.

We idled back to the dock, pulled it out and I could see a rock between the impeller and the stator. I was able to take off the reverse gate and rudder and then the stator and remove the rock. When I took the stator off, some oil ran out.

My question is, does this oil replenish itself from the main reservoir or do I need to refill it myself somehow?

The stator has oil in it... and some rather fragile seals. You must refill it, and hope you didn't pinch a seal. There are 2 grub screws in the end of it. Take them out, and pump in a few oz of Mercury High Performance gear lube. (not the standard outboard or IO oil)

If you are going to be running in the shallows... then I would recommend getting the "Rock Grate".

Sorry for the newbie question!

I upgraded to a pod account and checked out the service manual and that helped out a lot.

Got the gear lube, pump and also ordered a SS rock grate to hopefully keep this from occurring in the future.

Thanks for the help!!
