is this normal

i have removed my pump to change the wear ring for the third time this season ,, i noticed that i can move the driveshaft around alot ,up and down and side to side with the pump off
thought i would check alignment of the shaft as a possible cause but dont understand alignment of shaft when you can move it around
i can also frab the shaft that goes into the engine and moveit around also
all help appreciated
