Is this new or sand blasted?

It looks new, no pitting on the hose connections at all, no marks for the cover bolts either. It was super clean if it was used.

Thats what i thought too. I just havent seen one without paint on it. It was only at $41 with 15 seconds left i hit bid put $109 and by the time i hit confirm bid there was only 2 seconds left. I ended up getting it for $107.50. I think people were shying away because the guys feedback, i dont care though thats why paypal has buyer protection. Funny thing is i dont even need it right now, but im trying to buy all original new brp 787 parts to build a complete motor. Have a few parts but it will take a while to find parts at decent prices. I think i did ok with that price

Looking for cases, and counter balancer. I know they will come up on ebay eventually and between now and feb is the time to buy.

I have 4 sets of cases that are good. I have a couple counter balancers too but i would like i brand new motor. Ive been trying to find a 99 spx thats in good shape too to drop it in. I found one less than 1 month ago for $1100 on craigslist, it looked perfect. It was garage kept, the guy was an older guy and he just bought 2 new seadoos and he said he had a hard time getting on it. I talked him down to $900 but he lived 3 hours away and i couldnt get there until the next night due to that damn thing called work. By that time someone paid full price. I shouldnt have been so cheap. Oh well i have a nice 98 spx that im planning on using for it unless i get the 99. This is the spx as of now will be the receipient of the new motor. Picked this up cheap.

I know this is a late responce, but I wouldn't be too surprised if that's how they came new. Seeing the engines are assembled first & then painted, I wouldn't think there is much prep on them if they have never been on an engine yet. Bead blasting will clean off items without any blasting marks at all, but like racerxxx said, it would be hard to pass one off as new because of the bolt & possible hose marks.

Also a word to the wise. For an issue like this if you got the part and it was obviously used and the eBay seller said new PayPal won't refund your money if you got the part. Heck if he sent you a case of rocks paypal wont help you. I have been screwed a few times from PayPal.

funny, but I read the opposite is true, paypal favors the buyer in most cases. (i've never been screwed with 400 sales / purchases, but maybe i've just been lucky)

To answer the op question, they don't paint the engines until hey are all assembled, which is why the head bolts get painted along with the rest.

Never once seen that in thousands of paypal transactions. They ALWAYS side with the buyer and the seller has a LOT of proving to do if they want a chance in hell at winning a dispute. I had a guy buy a set of oldschool mint BMX pedals off me, they were perfect! He got them and immediately said they weren't as described and well used and paypal immediately put a hold on the funds. I had to jump through hoops to argue what I sent him. They found in his favor anyway and refunded him his money and he had to send me the pedals back. After receiving some old beat up used pedals in return, I had to file a police report as it was theft at that point and it wasn't until then that PayPal reversed things and gave me my money back. What a nightmare! As I said- they ALWAYS side with the buyer!

I have purchased a plastic back piece for one of my cars and the guy swore he sent it, I filed a non recieved and the seller submitted a USPS tracking number for a neighboring city and I argued and they still sided with the buyer. I then did a chargeback with discover and they immediately came back and said PayPal did ok.

Second time I purchased a hot tub part they said new it was obviously used. I asked for money back seller refused. I sent in pictures to PayPal and they sided with with seller telling me I got the part.
My experiences is that they don't always side with buyer and I came up with the policy that I don't spend more than 50 bucks on EBay. By the way I have been using eBay since 98.

question to the OP, (not being a smart ass here), but why are you so determined to have all new parts ? about 20 minutes into the first test ride they will all become used..

Im a power seller on ebay, paypal and ebay always side with the buyer. I sent out a rave valve assy, i always use delivery confirmation, the guy messaged me 1 week after he got his package and asked where all the parts were. I told him there are 2 bags in the box one with the rave and the clip and the rest was in the second bag. He said there was only 1 bag and then he said i probably have a theif working for me, because the guy who packaged the parts probably kept the parts. First of all sounded fishy that he waited 1 week to contact me, whenever i order something the day it comes in its like christmas i cant wait to open it, oh yeah as for the employee part, i dont have any lol i ship out everything myself. So i call ebay immediatly and describe the situation, and someone in india tells me to simply have him send me back the items and refund his money, i said hold on i sent him the product and he claims he didnt get it even though i know he did, and i have to take the loss. So she says no he will send you back the items first, then refund the money. The most expensive part is missing WEIRD. Anyways If i didnt refund his money he would have left negative feedback and i didnt want to lose my top rated status because you get a good discount on final value fees and shipping. Buyers have you by the balls it just sucks that people out there are so crappy. Ive been checking his feedback and he hasnt purchased one from anyone else, why would he, he got one for free from me.

I bought some new parts as spares and now that im aquiring more i just want to see if i can get all the parts. I have enough used stuff on hand for everything ill need if i need to rebuild anything, but i just want to see if i can do it for a decent price. Come on you know you want one too, one of my xps has the original motor in it and it has 145 comp in each cylinder, so i would like to get that oem quality even though a good rebuild is nice. I just want to see if i can do it. It will probably take another year to get all the parts but i know in the end i will be happy with it.

if you want to unload a set of cases let me know, im thinking about building a spare 787 over the winter.

Wow, both of your experiences suck!! I'd be pissed too. I know that for the seller, as long as you have a tracking number proving you shipped an item, a "non receipt" claim typically gets tossed in your favor due to you proving the item was shipped. I found that out the hard way by initially not using tracking on items I was selling and getting ripped off by some unscrupulous people saying they never got it :(.. Been using tracking ever since!

The not as described, that really sucks and I have never once seen them side with the seller in a not as described case :(. I have been ripped off by many over the years with their "not as described BS", this was just the worst case that I mentioned above.

I too have been using paypal since the beginning (98 I think also?). Back when they would give you money for referring people (think it was $5) lol. Times have certainly changed with them though!

Well after all this debate over paypal siding with the buyer i hope that stays true. Because IT WAS SANDBLASTED. I got the package hurried like a kid at xmas opening it and low and behold there is white paint in the grooves around the letters and in on the edges, then when i looked closer you could see the impression from the head bolts when they were torqued down. Then the underside of the cover had a huge chunk of the channels that are casted busted out. I contact the guy and explain exactly what i noticed, no responce. I open i dispute, explain to ebay what is going on and the guy chimes in then and states it is new. If you look in the pictures you can still see the grooves have paint and the domes you can tell have been sand blasted, anyone that has ever sand blasted anything knows that the sand leaves slight indentions not real deep but you can tell.

Sorry JSG, those domes should be nice and smooth. I'm hope you come out on top, keep us posted.

Haha jokes on me when i said people stayed away because of his feedback, i looked and he is parting out a gtx, so im sure thats where this came from. I dont know if he isnt familiar with this and maybe he actually thinks its new or if he intentionaly sand blasted it and tried passing it off as new.
