Having some problems (looseness) with a set of guillotines.

Anyone know by looking if this is OEM or aftermarket. Possibly a WSM?

Yup, that`s OEM valve, and number 353 which is the updated version.
They`ll be loose in the cylinders considering the age of the cylinders, as long as they are in spec and sealing in the housings, you should be fine.

Thanks guys. Are there any other identifying marks to help confirm (one last cross check), say on the other side? My other side is totally clean, no markings at all anywhere.

Unfortunately it (this new valve, pictured) is way too loose (as evident by guillotine impact damage and two melted RAVE pistons).

The guillotine in the pic has only about 4 hours of run time (and it is pretty decent shape) the other was beat up pretty good.

Tried the SBT oversize guillotine, but it will not fit (just a bit too thick).

These OEM measure 0.312" thick, the SBT oversize measure 0.335". SBT measured several of there standard guillotines for me today and they are 0.322".

Suprised there is such of difference. By chance do any of you know the thickness of a true OEM guillotine for comparison?

I would expect the stock OEM and standard SBT to be the same.

The 2 new SBT exhaust valve I have measure .322 at the tip with a variation of +- .003 closer to the stem.
The 1 new SBT oversize valve measures .334.5 and also has a variation .0025 closer to the stem.

are you saying that your still cooking the valve piston with a replacement exhaust valve, new piston, and new housing?

4 hours of run time on the OEM 353 valve? was it a new OEM valve?

Thanks for the numbers. Good to see the consistency. I burned down the RAVES with what appear to be OEM (though they might be a WSM copy, just trying to make sure). I purchased a set of oversized SBT but they are too thick to use. Dont want to run the OEM looking valves because they are too loose.

Yes, the OEM looking valves were new. By chance do you have one you could measure? The SBT stock valve "seems" like it should work great. Looking to find out what an OEM valve should measure out as.

I don`t have a new OEM 353 to check, I`m sure there is an older 353 or 352 in the engine currently.
I`ll know the measurements when they get replaced. I have not seen a WSM valve. but I would suspect an original oem valve to be worn and not be able to measure the correct thickness...
More than likely the cylinders have worn due to the age. Mine are pretty sloppy, the new housings stiffened them up, but it is a wear item, and I can see changing these as necc...yay...lol...

I have two brand new OEM in the bags (290854358-420854358) and they both measure .318 thick. Now for the stem diameter they measure .392 on both. I also have two brand new in the OEM bags RAVE housings (290854360-420854360) and the diameter where the valve stem rides measures .396 to .397 on both. You can get some great life out of these valves and housing. My speedster is going on 12 years with the original housings and valves on one engine and the other engine they are about 4 years old. I've never had leakers, burners or anything in between. On my 96 XP engine I'm building it's getting a boat load on new goodies. I got the new RAVE valves on Ebay from a dealer around the corner, it was almost like buy one get one free pricing compared to list price. Same with the RAVE housings, bought from a dealer out in western PA, shot them an offer and as compared to retail price it was almost buy one get one. If your patient enough there are some awesome deals on Ebay for OEM parts, you'll be able to rest easy as I am done buying all my engine hardparts, so now you won't get sniper bid in the last 2 seconds by me:cuss:

If you need anymore measurements just ask, glad to help if I can.

good to know. I do know they were already replace on the original engines in this boat... and that would put them around 11-12 years old...
