Hi guys,

Just cleaning of my new to me 2007 GTI 155SE and noticed this on the underside, right in the centre:

Is it just a gel coat fix, or is a trip to the shop needed? Will much damage have been done running it like this??

Thanks in advance.

Terry

bottoms get damage. It's normal.

Personally, I would get a little black touch-up paint, and dab it into the holes.

The scratches are nothing more than cosmetic IMO.

The picture can't show enough detail on the larger chip near the front.

If the material is soft at all then it needs repaired. If it isn't deep Gel Coat will do the job. If it were me I'd use Gel Coat on all of your damage but I am anal about my toys.

To me...looks like someone used Bondo and spray paint to hide damage in need of real repair. And no...I wouldn't run it with glass exposed like that.

That looks like a prior repair that is starting to fail. I can see some pinholes under the primer and gouges in the filler they used under the primer. The black is a different color in the area that looks repaired. Looks like some of the repair is blistering off... I may be wrong but I did Autobody repair and was also a painter for 9 years at one point in my life....

Maybe you wanna just spray paint it again and go run...like nuthin is outa the ordinary.

The mere thought of my hull delaminating is enough to put a shiver down my back. Look closely at that repair...look what didn't get cleaned out...look at the edges already opening up on the back half of the entire scrape.

Suit yourself.

Please look at what I wrote. I never knew this damage was there. I asked will I have done much more damage running like this. Of course I am going to get it sorted, I was merely asking if it's a simple job I could do myself.

Now that I look at it via y laptop, I have to agree that you are looking at some sort of a previous repair.

I would sand the entire area down to figure out what type of damage is there. The mere fact that it has not collapsed I would think that it is not serious. Get it sanded and see what you have and post some pics for us.

i would take it to a reputable body shop and have it checked for an estimate, after all, most good body shops offer free estimates ...........

Relax...any sarcasm you might read in my remarks was not intended towards you. If you have fiberglass repair skills...sure...go for it. If not....I'd let a marine body man with experience handle the repair.

There are pics of delam issues on some older boats floating around...look'm up and see what happens when water...(under pressure, like along a hull at speed)...can do to fiberglass if it gets between layers.

I'd post some myself but some sites aren't welcome here...search bing for - pwc delamination
