Is Flushing part of the normal maintenance?

Do I need to flush the engine on every use of the boat? Understood the flush port is for running the motor on the trailer for long time. I only use the boat in fresh water.
Other than cooling, does flush actually "clean" part of the exhaust system?
Thanks

This is just an opinion... and I usually run my boat in salt water, so a flush is essentially every time.

Really, you don't know what kind of crap is being sucked through your cooling lines... mud, vegetation, etc. A flush is just good practice. You really don't want your cooling lines to get clogged so a flush of fresh water just cleans things out.

Since you have to spray engine fogger and lubricant through your air intake after every run, hooking up the hose to the back just seems like a simple extra step. And obviously, you don't want to run your engine for anymore than a few 10s of seconds if you aren't cooling it. it usually takes me a minute to fog the engine and spray lubricant in the air intake. So, I always hook up the hose when ii do this.

I don't flush unless I'm in salt water or very muddy/silty water.

You can search google with your engine model for a diagram of the flushing.

On my engine, the cooling water is a isolated jacket around the engine. The water doesn't actually go in the engine, it just flows around the engine to keep it cool.

You still have a wet exhaust and lots of cooling hoses. It isn't a bad idea to flush the cooling system once a year. If you are in areas with lots of debris in the water you should do it more and if in salt water after every use.

Biggest thing is NEVER have the water on with the engine off EVER!
