My machine is missing the grate. It was purchased like this and who knows how long it didn't have one on it. By looking underneath it looks like the 2 brass bushing inserts on the shoe are missing. Can I reinstall some brass bushing inside plate instead of replacing the entire shoe (plate)? then reinstall the new intake grate??? Second question.. If I do not have a grate on machine what, if any concerns should I be aware of without one. I am planning on going out this week and the dealer is telling me the part will take a week to get in. What are your thoughts.

The grate works really well in keeping out big things like bottles and fish...uh just kidding on the fish. :ack:

No Grate

I ran several years with no grate because you cannot remove some objects that get sucked in when the grate is installed. Also the boat runs faster with no grate. (Its a 95 Speedster with the fixed grate). But its a risk, a piece of wood could do serious damage.

The grate is designed to give protection over large objects in the water...It has saved me a lot of times...the faster difference is like 1mph...they don't restrict to much.
