I have a Lowrance M68C Fish-finder and I want to install it in my 1997 Seadoo Challenger 1800. I've looked around the forum and couldn't find any pictures of similar installs on this boat. My question is this....I am no opposed to mounting the transducer on the transom if I can find the right place and the best route to run the cable. I am also considering doing a "shoot-through hull" install, but again, not sure of the best place to install the transducer on this boat. If anyone has any experience on this or any suggestions, pictures, advice, or recommendations, I would be most grateful. Thanks!

It's all up to you, and how you want to mount it. As far as where to mount the though hull style... the instructions will tell you where, and how.

Well I tried placing the bag of water under the fishfinder to test how it would be in the engine compartment for a "through hull" it didn't seem to be accurate at all. I couldn't find another place in the engine bay to place it other than the one which wasn't accurate. I decided I'd rather mount it, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of room in the back....or even how I'd run the power cable.....ARG!

Instructions didn't tell me where to put it just general places...I read those over thoroughly.

1800 should be very similar to the 2000. Very bottom and rear of the ski locker.

A few of us tested this with the water bag and did the epoxy install spring of 2011. Works great and you can use the skimmer transducer that ships with 99% of all Lowrance/Eagle units.

This is not an install for those with the new Downward Scanning units or for those that want temp. But it is perfect for those that want accurate depth up to full throttle, and don't care to drill through the hull.

Good luck!

Also,

When testing with a water bag, it's important to place the transducer on the bag and press it to the hull. It should not just set on the bag and float as it has to be solid so that the signals can return accurately.

I noted that it lost signal at about 50mph and it may have been due to the hull coming out of the water at that speed. Honestly, I hardly ever need depth at that speed. I don't need to be taking my eyes off the water at that time.

Thanks for the luck, I think I may need it. This is what my transducer looks like. I tried placing the bag of water tightly in numerous areas around the boat and could not get an accurate signal for the life of me. It looks as though I may have to do this to the rear of the boat. I saw this thing called "stern saver" (google it) and I might just go ahead and use that so I don't have to drill into my hull. I don't think I have any other options. I tried the inside of my ski locker EVERYWHERE with no good signal =(
