Hi everybody.

I just put a brass liner in my 155 pump on my 98 xp limited. It was only done because I needed my machine running RIGHT NOW and it was the only one in the garage that would work.

I have heard many people speak against the stainless liners saying it will only increase impeller damage if rocks are pulled in.

All my old machines use the standard rubber or plastic liners. I helped my in law work on his sparks and they had metal liners from the factory (I think).

All the outboards in my area, running jets, have metal liners.

Regardless of liner type rocks are going to cause impeller damage.

So please chime in on your opinions, experiences, facts or rumors on plastic-vs-metal liners.

I like solid ss like the ones from skat trak in there magnum pumps. Stock boat id use oem or equivalent I keep an extra pump on the trailer anyway.

It's just a matter of personal preference. Pros and Cons on both sides. Having a lathe at home I could machine whatever I need. I wonder how much a tighter clearance would help out? I'll bet the race teams don't run the stock stuff. LOL If I made my own I'd use brass or bronze unless I had a piece of Stainless Steel laying around. :D

Do you run up on sandbars and such? If not and you are in clean water I would not see a problem. Floating green pine cones can do some damage too.

Water conditions are far from ideal. Not trying to brag, it's just the reality of where I'm at. The two main rivers, Chena that runs through town and feeds into the Tanana that goes to the bering sea.

Chena is mostly rocks on the bottom, semi silly, logs and sticks floating are everyday. 99% of my riding is there.

Tanana..... Very dangerous. Heavy silt, rock or silt bottom, whirlpools. Most any pwc running it us bound to have an accident. Was running side by side, 10 apart, with another guy and he ran up on the silt. He went 50 to 0 so fast he slammed the bars and got the air knocked out of him.20210819_130053.jpg20210817_220937.jpg
All my DOOs have identical wear and chunks missing out of the gelcoat and fiberglass.

Impeller liners disappear pretty quick.

Makes you want to bring a fly rod. What about those bow protectors have you tried them in the past?

No, never tried a bow protector.

The problem is I never caused the damage. All my machines are old, well used and I only paid for one out of the five I have. The free four were all DOA on arrival or dying. I have only beached one of them hard, ran that 97 GTX 10 feet up the rocks in front of EVERYONE. All the hull damage on them was from previous owners.

That and the two or three..... or four times I put my 94 XP into the trees....... But those don't count because rocks weren't involved.

Gelcoating my 98 XP (in the picture) as I'm typing.
