I may be totally wrong here or missing something but one of the things I really liked about my new Speedster 150 is the real time fuel burn display. Its nice to see what your fuel economy is at different RPMs however, GPH isn't really useful unless its calculated with your speed equaling MPG. The system knows you speed by GPS, it also knows your real time fuel burn rate, how difficult can it be to display MPG? Comments welcome ....

Totally agree, most people talk about consumption, however economy is based on range. You'd think it would be standard on most boats. It's like asking a dealer about the fuel usage, or better yet the range. Very hard to get an answer on it. Unfortunately it takes time to work it out yourself. When you do though, you'll know your boat better than most, including the dealers.

Cheers

why wouldnt you just want to know your GPH? There's no milage counter on the boat, only hour, so GPH would be great. I don't think mine shows an instant calculation, I'll look into it tho.

GPH is just simple fuel consumption and meaningless in assessing time-distance economy. I may be driving really slow and showing a low GPH reading, however it may take me hours to get to my destination. If a marginal increase in speed / GPH can get me there a lot sooner, the overall fuel economy for the trip could be improved.

MPG on the other hand factors in your real time fuel burn and your speed giving you a much better overall picture .....

It depends, if you're cruising you need to know your best range so you don't run out of gas. If your horsing around, towing, or doing short jollies, then fuel flow is better. Just depends how you use the boat. Sort of like when you do a crosscountry in your car. If you won't see a town for an hour, fuel flow is useless. You need to know the range for the speed you're doing.

cheers

True ... I vaguely recall seeing a "range" option, maybe that's their solution or alternative to MPG. Assuming its real time that is ...

Thanks Mark ! Thats exactly what I was referring to.... The most economical cruise speed may not necessarily be the lowest GPH reading. I would love to know if the "Remaining Fuel Range" on the new models will show similar data as that graph..... If you are able to check and let me know as I wont be taking my boat out for a week or so.

I know that when going through the display modes that the remaining fuel range does tell you an estimated miles to empty on one screen as well as a time to empty on another. I have not messed with it enough to see if it changes on the fly as you change speeds though.
