No problem in importing at BUT...if you want it to go smooth...
- you need a bill of sale showing previous owner, and contact info esp phone number (in case they want to call the guy)
- copy of Craigslist ad (if applicable) - Border will want to look at "list price" vs what you paid to see if you are under-stating
sale price
- you need whatever version of title Florida has for the machine
Then they convert the USD purchase price to CDN and you pay ALL the tax (HST) then and there. They really are only
interested in the taxes anyway...
Now if you are bringing or importing a seadoo trailer that gets a little more complicated. Just make sure the trailer has
BOTH decals/labels or the one decal showing VIN #, manuf, tires sizes, GVW etc. If the trailer is LESS than 15 years old
you will pay a Registration of Imported Vehicle tax (RIV) of $218 as well as HST and you must have the trailer inspected
(many Canadian Tire stores do this - it's included in the $218 tax (whoopee)) but those decals MUST be on the trailer
otherwise big big hassle - even to the point of returning it to the USA. If OLDER than 15 years, other than the HST, no one
cares what condition the trailer is actually in. Don't get me started on this logic... :banghead:
hassles.
