On my '96 speedster, I'm trying to remove the impellers to replace the wear rings. It seems impossible. I have the removal tool, put pump in a vise, turning removal tool counter clockwise and it won't budge. The vise is moving before the impeller comes loose. Even with a breaker bar and a 3 ft pipe on it. I did try heat but maybe not enough. With a propane torch how long should I be heating it?
Is there anything else I'm missing? Are they really this difficult? HELP!!!:banghead:

OEM uses that red locktite. Needs to heat up to weaken it. Impact works every time to remove them. Done in like 10 seconds.

How long would you think to heat it? 30 seconds? 10 minutes? I really don't know what it takes. I tried propane for about 30 seconds, didn't do anything.

Harbor Freight sells a heat gun for less than $15. Heat and leverage, and it will give. I have set it up on the ground with a wrench on each side, such that I am standing on one wrench/on pump while moving the long lever on the other side...

It will give! You can do it!

I dropped the pumps off at the dealer on Monday to just break them loose. They would have taken 3 weeks to change the wear rings. I asked them to just loosen them for me and I'll do the rest. Well I picked them up this morning and changed the wear rings. The guy told me "yeah they were stuck bad" it took 2 guys to get it done.

How much did they charge you?

A propane torch really doen't throw the kind of heat you need. It will do it, but EVERYTHING will be hot by the time the Locktite gives. Am Oxy Acetylene does the job.

Every manual says not to use an impact, but most do as they really have no choice.
