I'm changing the wear ring and impeller oil on my '95 HX. I pulled the cone, drained all the oil, and put the cone back on. But, once i had it tightened down the impeller was very stiff and tight. I've looked for answers on here but nothing that helps. I need to move the ski and would like to have it back together this weekend. Thanks.

ok then. should i go ahead and up grade to the cone with the spring loaded pin while i'm at it? are the threads right handed or left handed?

Anti rattle?.........

Don't waste your money on the anti rattle kit. Once it gets wore in, the spring tends to weaken and start rattling again.

The rattle is only heard when it's out of the water. What you hear is the clearance of the thrust washer (bearing) as it is freely moving back and forth because there is no water pressure being provided by the impeller. It doesn't really hurt anything. All Seadoo's do it.

I bought one for mine a few years ago, it lasted all of 2 or 3 months. Then, I bought one more, thinking the other was defective, .......back to rattling again in a couple months.

The newer pumps that use grease have a different bearing setup. So, you'll notice you don't hear it from them, just us older 2 strokers have this problem.

Sales.....

Well, we've obviously got differing opinions of the anti rattle kit, I can see where you say you've sold 50 with no complaints and that the possibility of me having an underlying problem is the culprit to my continued rattle.

Wiith someone in sales, I wouldn't expect you to actually admit that the anti rattle kit wasn't all that it was cracked up to be. The intentions may have been to prevent it but reality, like everything else, didn't stop the problem.

Just to rectify my statement. I've had as many complain that when they purchased them, it also did them no good. I explained to them how to check their axial and radial movement to ensure they had no other issues.

Myself, I checked my pump and my radial play was less than .002" and my axial (end play) was .23. So, as you can see, my pump is fine.

The law of physics I believe applies here. It's obvious because, a thrust bearing is meant to bear a load. If there is no load on it, then it will rattle. That's why you don't hear it when the impeller is under a load.

In my expert opinion in actually using and evaluating this kit, I say your wasting your money!.........

I hope to get a back up pump soon so that I will not loose a partial season due to a pump failure.

Ive been straddling water craft since 1978...I have worked for and have been the service manager for some high volume dealerships. Those anti rattle devices for the jet pump, is a great money maker and that's about it. I have never witnessed even 1 work like they should after a few weeks. If you like throwing your money away...
I have a bridge for sale...I'll even throw in a free toll plaza to help pay for it.

Save your money!

ok, here's my next question. if the antirattle cone fails like snipe says his did and i don't catch it, am i going to have a possibly catastrophic pump failure later? if so i'd rather stick with the original cone. thanks

Anti-rattle

There are two kinds of SeaDoo jet pumps.....the ones that rattle a little bit and then there's the ones that rattle a little bit more. If I DON'T hear the pump rattling when I'm running one out of the water then I'm thinkin there is a pump problem!! The anti-rattle cone is a waste of money.

A better prop?

Can anyone here recommend a good replacement or a performance impeller that will work well with my HX? Thanks. I might as well do it all while its apart.:ack:
