I think I found my source of cavitation.

So after chasing the cavitation all last summer, I decided to really go after it before I get busy this year. Last year I replaced my carbon seal. And replaced both rubber boots by the PTOs. I had no bad leaks coming from that area, but still had horrible cavitation from the port side pump. So I decided to try the wear rings, even though I knew they were only one year old. So today I remove the pump, and examine them closely. This is what I found. One of the veins has a large chunk missing, two of the others have smaller chunks missing. I presume it was from when the previous owner changed the wear rings and used a rod to keep impeller from spinning.

Do you agree this is causing my cavitation??

A local repair place has an excellent condition used pump I can have for $150. Does that sound fair??

Think that's a very good guess that's where your cavitation is coming from. Good luck hope Minnetonka4me can help ya out!

yup the plastic ones suck. Although light, one rock and they are done. What is this off of? I sell brass 140mm pumps pretty cheap.

Ok someone actually swapped that one in. It should be a big hub 140mm pump and that is a small hub. The big hubs were better for the boats, but harder to find and more $$$ I do have a really nice one in stock ready to rip.

They had plastic, but big hub pumps had countersunk Allens holding the cone on. The picture you posted has regular bolts on the edge. That's 100% a small hub.

In 98 the only boat that got the big hub pumps was the speedster. You can verify this on the micro fiche.
