ok a couple weeks ago i had my boat out and ever since i bought it the damn thing has a miss around 6500 rpm and wont rev any further, unplugged the red wire to see if the rectifier was bad and it still did it so today i pulled the mag cover, i didnt have a cherry picker so i just ran a rope around the bottom of the motor and around the ski pole and to the side cleat, anyway everyone was suggestinh it was either the pickup thingy in the cover as they sometimes get metal shaving on them and filings from the starter and short out or it was my cdi box, uugghh damn thing is 800 dollars, so now i have my mag cover off heres the pics, how can i test this pick or trigger assembly and see if it is good before i blow 800 on a cdi box? thanks fellas, look at the plug pic, in the lower right corner the pin almost looks like it got hot, kinda black

Sorry, I didn't see it sooner.

I would clean the pick-up coil, and clean that pin. The pin is probably the issue. You will want to disassemble the plug, since the wire going into that pin could be burnt too. Also... the plug on the other side is going to be damaged as well.

As far as testing the pick-up. Use a meter, and make sure it's not grounded, or open. Then... put the meter to a voltage setting... and wave a magnet back and forth. You should see a swing in the power. And finally... make sure it's not moving on the mount. (or any physical damage)

OK. Ty I will be home tomorrow night and I will try it. I forgot to mention. That burnt pins wire comes from the stator wires and not the trigger assembly. But you still think that could be causing my high speed misfire?

Any electrical interference will cause an EMF issue. Since the power wires are bundled with the pick-up coil... a power pulse... from making/breaking contact, could cross-talk into the pick-up wires. (giving you a false fire)

That fact is exactly what Max Plank was looking for in a set of unified wave equations, joining all electromagnetic waves. (a changing current in one wire, can induce a current in a second)

mmmmmmmmm, I didn't see Max's (who) post on this thread. You must have deleted it due to poor speeling......LOL.... :) (sorry)

OK drhonda ty. So I'm in my semi heading to Detroit and won't be able to work on it till this weekend. Do I order the plugs and pins and rewire? How do I get those things apart? I wanna have everything so I can try to fix it this weekend

Just my 2 cents,
In the provided pics I see a few metal shavings. Make sure you thoroughly clean everything before reassembly.

Even though your trigger coil is good, replace it since you're already in there. The one you have there is the old style one with a weak bracket and it will eventually break, leaving you stranded. Compare it to my pictures of a new style one.
