What is the easiest way to untangle rope form the impeller shaft. The boat finally started after i replaced the battery. that whole situation was incredibly irritating. I dont claim to know a great deal on engines but to struggle with a motor for around a day and half and it need a new battery, come on. Any way the boat ran fine until I tangled by own rope around the impeller shaft. It is wrapped pretty tight and I cant get it by simply reaching underneath. Thanks for all the help so far you guys have been a blessing. Hopefully I can get my head of my rear and finally be able to enjoy the boat.

Thanks again

there is a cover of some sort directly over the propeller shaft. Is that thing attached to any thing or can I unscrew the screws under neath and remove that cover. All I need is a little room to get my hand all the way up there to cut the rope away

G'day Ian,
easiest way i found to get rope out is to remove pump housing off the rear of the boat, only 4 nuts and a couple of cables. This will expose the drive shaft, then you can just untwist the rope off, no cutting needed!
I know it seems like the long way but it is quite easy.

i actually attempted that. the problem was the housing didn't seem to give any. Is it possible the rope is wrapped around something else under there or do I need to be a little more forceful when pulling it out. I didnt yank on it real hard when I tried.
Thanks

Yeah sorry, when i took mine off the first time they where quite sticky and did take some pulling and wiggling but eventualy came away.
Double check that you have got every thing off then if you have to use a pry bar with a cloth under it to protect the body, make sure you dont crack the gelcoat.
They are stuck on with black silcon.
Unless the rope is wrapped around the impeller, it should come off.

When my daughter did this I removed the PTO cover and turned the engine backwards, I believe I took out the spark plugs to make turning the motor very easy. Rope unwound and came right out.

Wiped the tears away from her eyes and told her to get back out there and have fun. She was afraid of doing it again, I told her if you do we will fix it! been 5 years since then she never did it again!
