This is not particularly exciting but I thought I'd post it up just for future reference in case someone is searching for this sort of thing. Not a hard procedure but pictures are always good for real newbies (like me) so maybe it will help someone 5 years from now.
While I figure out what I'm going to do about restoring the gelcoat I figured I would pull off the old stock traction mats in preparation for some Hydro Turf, so here are the pics:
Old crusty warped mat:
Pulled the little black plastic caps off all the rivets and took a 1/8" drill bit to the rivet heads, popped them out, then a 1/8" punch to knock them through the hull. Some of them you won't be able to knock out all the way - for me it was the ones along the very back edge (they literally won't budge), and some in the forward footwells have styrofoam directly underneath them so they won't really fall all the way out but the hole will be clear. Yum!
Washed it up as well as I could with some Simple Green and a blue Scotchbrite pad.
There was some grime I couldn't get off, and some slight cracks around some of the holes but nothing I'm terribly worried about.
The footwells were pretty nasty once I pulled those off too. I think the previous owner had them outside uncovered for quite a while so a lot of crap collected in here:
The other ski with the back deck pad off:
Cleaned up:
The whole procedure took me maybe an hour or two but I wasn't in any hurry. Tomorrow I will probably put a little dab of silicone or some sealant in the holes just for grins.
