Hydraulic Lifters on 4-Tec? '07 Speedster 150 N/A

I've been told by a few on this forum to check the valve clearance on my '07 155hp Speedster which is closing in on 500 hours. I called my 2 local Sea-Doo dealers in the greater Seattle area for a quote on the job and they both responded that it wasn't necessary because the 4-tec's have hydraulic lifters (so checking wouldn't be necessary).

Can those who've pulled apart or worked on the 4-tec's confirm this?

My engine is in a million pieces on my work bench right now and I'm not going to lie, I'm not sure what exactly hydraulic lifters are ; however I will yell you there is a cam shaft, rocker body and valve springs in these engines. Not sure why you couldn't check them.

In the 2005 Seadoo 4tec engine shop manual it does say the lifters are hydraulic and no adjustment is needed. Full disclosure, I'm not an expert in engine internals at all but I do understand that hydraulic lifters = no valve adjustment. I also know that a lot of marine engines do not have hydraulic lifters and valve adjustments are necessary maintenance procedures every x number of hours (usually in the 100s of hours). I don't recall ever seeing a valve adjustment procedure listed in any of the shop manuals as part of regular maintenance.

5.jpgYou're absolutely right, I was looking at my engine last night on my work bench and there is in fact NO adustment screws and I see now what is meant by hydraulic lifters, thanks for setting me straight.

Thanks for chiming in and confirming guys! These little engines are awesome :) Nearly 500 hours and I haven't had one mechanical failure.
