Hey everyone,

I hope everyone has had as great a boating season as I have...It has been a wonderful summer. Lots of great trips to new places and only small problems with the boat.

The question I have for you today is what is the best product to use on the hull of the boat to remove some of the yellow film that has built up this year? Or, just in general a good cleaner for the hull? I put the boat in salt water for the first time this summer for about 4 days. I noticed more discoloring after I pulled it out of the water then. I did spray the engine down with WD-40 before and after putting the boat in and pulling it out of the water. I also used the product Salt-Away after pulling it out of the water. I had back in fresh water this weekend, and engine wise, everything was performing fine. It's just the discoloring on the hull. It makes the boat look like $#*@...

Thanks for any input,

Leo

Here are 4 products you can use.
1. Boat magic...I've never used it yet but I have a btl siting in my garage that i just got for free off their website.
2. Starbrite Hull cleaner...works pretty good
3. the best I've used. Zing by zingaway
4. toilet bowl cleaner...works but can't use over lake water...harmful to grass too unless COMPLETELY flushed with water.

Thanks guys, I am going to research all your ideas and products and grab one today!

Thanks again

Leo

Tiled does wonders

But better yet is this cleaner we get at local boat store called hull cleaner. It's around 16.95 for the spray bottle. It's kinda thick stays in place. Let it set for 5minutes then rinse off. Like a miracle.

Some of you guys are gonna laugh. I use Castrol Super Clean, dilute about 50%. I use this stuff on everything, my wife even uses it for household cleaner, and yes I have stock in the company.

I'm a fan of the starbrite hull cleaner, just used it today to do a final cleanup before storage. I just make sure to clean off any dirt, grime or algae first before I apply the starbrite. Also I only apply when the surface is dry and it works magic before your eyes. Be sure to wear gloves b/c it can really irritate your skin.

It tends to leave the surface a bit dull, but you can polish that out quite easily.

My neighbors have used 'bar keepers friend' to clean their white fiberglass boat, but I don't like the idea of using an abrasive on my fiberglass. Supposedly it has the same oxaclic acid in it that the starbrite has and has worked for them, plus it is a lot less expensive.

Hope the info helps, and good luck cleaning. I am glad to be done already!

Used the on and off hull cleaner today and it works awesome. Everything off in record time with no struggling at all. 2 thumbs up.

I'm a believer!

I got the Mary Kate On and Off yesterday and completely cleaned my hull in less than an hour. I can't stop staring at it! It looks great! It removed all of the algae stains from the Sandusky River and Bay (Ohio). We have a bad problem with algea blooms and I thought my boat was ruined. Thanks for talking me into this stuff guys!

P.S. Wear plastic gloves and don't breath this stuff in.

Absolutely, On and Off is awesome stuff, so fast and easy. I'm doing my boat next week, I'm going to wear a respirator. Last year I would hold my breath and spray then run for fresh air. A couple times I ended up standing upwind of the mist, not good...

I use MaryKate's On and Off regularly, but I also keep a Magic Eraser handy. Those 2 products will get anything off of your hull. I also use Collinite's cleaner wax and Collinite's finish wax. Couple of good coats of wax and you will not need any hull cleaner.
