how to remove fuel selector

I am trying to remove the fuel selector knob on my 95 SP. The manual says to remove the cap and the set screw and pull off the knob. I got the cap and the set screw off but the knob will not back out. Am I missing something? How much persuasion should I be giving the knob? It is tough since there is not alot to grab. Thanks for you advice.

I just replaced mine on both of my ski's. Put a screw driver under it and pry it up lightly. Work from side to side slowly. It will come off with some persuation just take your time.

Stick a thin piece of plastic under the screwdriver - like the plastic blister packaging to protect the surface of the boat.

Do I pry the ring and the knob off together? I have just been trying the ring.
