i know how it works but my isnt working right according to my warning lights, is otas ran by the computer or is it a switch in the steering that increases the idle. i have no clue how it runs so i can start trying to fix it. thank you

O.p.a.s.

I think you are confused with O.P.A.S. (Off Power Assisted Steering). These are the 2 (ruudders) on the sides of your ski which help you steer the ski when the power is taken away...or in slow speed situations. Its mechaniccally controlled with your steering theres nothing electrical about it and it has nothing to do with your idle.. and as for the warning light it has nothing to do with O.P.A.S it's something else.

The Otas electronic control system proves highly useful in brisk changes of direction, ensuring hydrojet high efficiency even when power is abruptly reduced to the minimum, while the drive shaft with crowned spline design maintains engine and pump alignment at all operating speeds.

O.T.A.S.™ – The Sea-Doo O.T.A.S. (Off-Throttle Assisted Steering) system provides additional maneuverability in off-throttle situations. The O.T.A.S. system is electronically activated when the driver initiates a full turn and under a pre-programmed engine speed.

O.P.A.S. and O.T.A.S.......

Both these systems are used on the Seadoo's. They aren't asked about often, I guess because they are normally not an issue of concern.

The O.P.A.S., Off Power Assisted Steering is a system on the PWC's that is used to provide stability when releasing the throttle at high speeds. As we all know, when you have no nozzle pressure, you have no steering. O.P.A.S. uses two little small rudders attached at the rear of the ski, port and starboard. They are only found on ski's.............

The O.T.A.S., Off Throttle Assisted Steering is a system, mostly found on boats. For that matter, I didn't know the skis even had it. The O.T.A.S. system is designed for maneuvering. It's mostly used while docking. The principle of the system is to increase the throttle, adding nozzle pressure for better turn managment, which is initiated by the steering wheel.

When you start a gradual turn, motor rpm is at idle, the nozzle begins the turn. If you need to decrease the radius of the turn, you turn the steering further. Once you are at the end of the wheels turning radius, the O.T.A.S. system increases throttle to tighen the turn even further.

As for trouble shooting it............Mine is manual. It's got a "Y" off the throttle cable that connects to the steering wheel. Simple mechanics. You say yours is going through some kind of electronics. I've yet to read about this type O.T.A.S. or have any other member inquire about it. I will be looking further into it but at the moment, I'll have to see if another member can help you.

well i took out the my two 3d's and i guess i figured it out,

i noticed that the 3d with the otas problem had a little stiffness on the steering. i sprayed into both ends of the steering cable with corrosion x and it made it smooth as new,
as well i noticed on the parts diagram that there is a switch on the steering colomn so i sprayed right on it and when i took it out the light went away and the idle kicked on after coming off a plane

i agree with derek, even though they call it a safety feature, my g/cf ends up in the mangroves or under the dock when coming into the dock.

Weird.......

I find it weird that they'd have it on a jetski. I couldn't live without it on my boat. It's worth it's weight in gold when docking at a marina when the tide is going out and you've got a handful of steering wheel.

But like I said, my boat's is manual. Just a cable adjusted to a cam on the steering. Never a problem with it.

I just don't see the need for it to be on a ski.
