How to clean and protect electrical connectors

How do I clean up and protect electrical connectors from corrosion? I bought an old 2004 Arctic Cat 400 ATV changed the starter, battery wasn’t charging so I ohmed the stator and checked the ac voltage output from the stator, tested good, less than.5 ohm and 70AC volt output. Ordered a new voltage regulator and when I went to change it, I noticed melted connectors. From what I read this can be caused by bad connections, and I’ve already seen some connectors that were pretty corroded. I’ve seen electronic cleaner? I have just used sand paper folded over buy wanted to see what the proper way is? 50652CCD-3C67-4744-94D1-055E92946AE2.png

This was actually a question, I haven’t cleaned up many at all and wanted to see how people were doing it? I came across a Seadoo thread where @mikidymac mentioned Deoxit, wondering if it removes corrosion and what to follow up with? Di-electric?
