hey all
i have a 97 seadoo gsx, just wondering if there is any way to check my engine coil to see if it is working right.

thanks:cheers:

Use an ignition coil tester, You can get them at auto parts stores. Don't test on a metal surface though. Tester should come with some instructions.
1. With ignition coil removed from craft, disconnect
spark plug caps from high tension cables.
2. Hook high tension leads from tester to ignition
coil high tension cables.
3. Connect 2 smaller tester leads to primary of ignition
coil.
4. Turn power switch to 12 volts and you should
observe spark jumping at a predetermined gap
of 7 to 8 mm (.276 to .311 in).
If there is no spark,or if it is weak, the
coil is bad and should be replaced.

first test is cranking engine with one wire at a time on a plug held to the side of engine. other one on the ground lug. if you see good spark on both plugs, both coil and everything else should be good 2 go. if no spark, you have not isolated which component is bad, but you know you have a problem. if no spark, unscrew the plug wire end (spark plug end) off the wire. cut it back 1/4 inch or so. crank wire end back into wire, and check again. the plug wires are built into the coil and can't be replaced seperately.

Coil wires Non-replaceable?

Well,..being the electrical system noob', I tried & successfully pulled one from my Sea-Doo's coil.
Needless to say, it would be alot easier unscrewing the wire off the internal screw that was holding it into the socket.
(That's how I removed the 2nd one) alot easier.
Then I proceeded to trim about 1/4" off the end of each wire and re-screw it back into the socket till' it bottomed out.
So, I guess I'm thinking they CAN be replaced?????
