How to avoid brealing off bolts?

I have seen a lot of posts recently saying 'while removing xxxxx I broke a bolt off'. I am going to be taking out my wear ring and am worried about breaking the bolts.

Aside from using lots of oil well in advance, does anyone have any advise to keep this from happening? It seems to take a lot less force to happen then one would think.

If it works like every other cranky bolt I've had to deal with, go easy on it and if it doesn't start coming out, stop and get some heat on it. If that doesn't work, always a possibility, don't over torque it and break it anyway.

Removing a pump should be straight forward, o couldn't see you breaking a bolt. I ride in salt water and had never broken any bolts on a pump.

I hear what you are saying but i don't want to take chances especially after the problems I had with the bolts on my grate. Right now I am going out each night and spraying them

I use a solder gun for stuck carb bolts. Head bolts, if they break, my bro gets them out. Pump bolts should be ok, but use Kroil for a day and you should be good

so I tried to remove a bolt and it is really stuck. its one of the ones that the rudder pivots on. so I was going to put some heat to it until I remembered that there are plastic inserts in there. so I check the part diagram and it lists red Loctite on those bolts:

1) red cannot be removed with out heat?
2) is a butane torch enough? how hot do I need to make it?
3) will the plastic inserts melt?

when I put it back together is red needed or can I use blue?

Red is for when you don't plan to get the bolt out in your lifetime. (Rideplate? Back of Ubolt? something like that...totally permanent.)
Blue is for a bolt you want to be secure and not back out, but you want to remove with tools at some point.
