How long does a tank of oil last in a 96 speedster twin 717's.
If it by the tank full, is it 3 or 4 tanks of gas?
Like to know so I can order my bulk oil. Thanks

depend'n on usage of boat, can last season, may last a few seasons. I noticed that, oil level barely dropped on last boat, but my other skis/boat..went to premix, and damn, wish i kept the injection system..

Ok, I used 2 tanks of gas in October. So are you saying that 2 gallons of oil is more than 4 tanks of gas. Is the gas tank 20 or 27 gallons?

keep it topped off

lol...im say'n, keep the oil rez filled, and if motor hasnt popped, then must ber get'n oil, so just refill it up, once it reaches 1/3, since the same oil lubes the RV assy...

Thanks but I'm just trying to work out an order for bulk oil. 1 case = 4 gallons!
Like to know if I use one tank a weekend in the summer who many gallons would I need for the season.
I know of the 1/3 tank refill as that is were ny light goes on!

I had a 1996 speedster 6years ago, and remembered filling the tank completely when I first got it. We used the boat heavily a full spring/summer and there was over 1/2 a tank of oil remaining. I'd imagine that was approx. 1 1/2 gallons of oil.

Weekend use.....

In the south, our season is pretty long. I fill my oil tank in the spring and I might have to fill it one more time around September or October, just before it starts to cool off.

The oil last for a really long time. That's why I like the VROI system. The motor only uses what it needs.

Check your plugs a couple times to make sure your burning well.

One more check....when you start the boat out on idle, reach down, grab the cam on the oil pump, wind it all the way open. If it's working correctly, your motor should start to smoke really badly in as little as one minutes time. That means your pump is working normally...........

if you work on 40/1 premix which is what most people recommend, then you will use 1 gallon per 40 gallons of fuel so your 4 gallons will last 5 and a bit tanks of fuel. thats if you have a 30gallon tank.
I have been thinking about my oil usage since i went premix and have come to the conclusion that it uses the same amount as when using the injection system.
With premix it is always 40:1 ratio and as you back off then you are using less fuel so you are using less oil.
With the injection, as you back off you use less fuel and the variable rate oil pump, pumps less oil to keep the mix at 40:1.
Please correct me if i'm wrong, but it just makes sense that both systems use the same amount of oil!!!!

Also

Id advise against filling the tank more then half full on the older boats because that amount of oil is quite heavy and slapping waves could break or crack the oil tank or its mounts. it will also put pressure on the oil line fittings which are leaky to begin with.
