Hello everyone. How fast should my boat be going? I have the 240 EFI Mercury in the 2000 speedster. No engine mods. I feel like it should have more potential. I bought it used, so I never felt the power from day 1.

At 6000 rpm on smooth water you can do over 50 mph with just one or two people in the boat. Usually poor acceleration or poor performance is a sign the impeller or wear ring needs replacing. There is a measurement you can take to see if it is in tolerance. I think the distance from the tip of the impeller to the inside of the wear ring is suppose to be no more than .010 inch.

Here is what you need to know about engine speed and mph from boattest.com for the 2000 Speedster

Thank you everyone for your replies. the last I checked, my speedometer was only getting to 35. the water was a little choppy. Im going to try it out in glassy water and see what it reads.
