How do you remove the Muffler (resonator)

I have a 98 gsx limited 5629. The resonator has a hole in it. I was told the nut on the exhaust port is the only thing holding it in. i removed the nut and it still won't budge Anybody have advise

I had the same problem. I cut the plastic on both pipes of the resonator and with the nut removed it came right out. Now I'm looking for a bypass pipe. I would like to have a stainless pipe bent to join the two rubber pipes but I may need to find a 2 1/2 inch radiator pipe and have a coupling on the longer pipe to the muffler. Let me know if you have found a better idea
