how do you guys secure your ski to the dock?

for a while ive been using just a loop around the handle bars but i hear thats not really the "proper" way.. recently i saw a guy on a 4tec hook up a clip to one of the cleats on his ski and then quickly tie it off on the dock, seruously, it took like 15 seconds to tie his jet ski to the dock.. no loops around the bars.. no messing in the storage compartments to find the rope, then untangle it and then go to town on the cleats at the dock securing the ski..

i should have asked the guy but i was too busy talking to a couple buddies.. is anyone familair with this? i tried searching the good ol' interweb and came up with net to nothing i havent tried already

i just use the old loop around the handlebar method, when i'm ideling into the dock, and in florida we have a 200 foot rule in most spots so there is plenty of time, so I pull out the rope, loop the handlebars (i'm kind of pre-looped) then when I pull up to the dock i tie off to the cleats or pilings, i rarely tie an actual knot when using the pilings, just loop it around three times quickly, takes me just a few seconds.

you could install cleats on your ski, its been done many times.

but in your example, where did the guy fish his rope out from I can't assume he had it hooked to the cleat permanently, although I used to do that on my yami, i had a small sailing rope permanantly hooked to my front bow, then tucked under the hood, to save a little time, but eventually I took it off since 90% of the time i'm beaching my ski anyway.

you could save a little time by using a carabiner,

but I've rusted out a couple of those as well, the water/salt destroys them rather quickly.

I will say that I really really like using the thin sailing line for tying up at the dock, it takes up very little space and you only need about 12 feet of it, (i have two of them that are about 12', one is ziptied twice so its very tight & compact, and the other one just kind of sits loose in my storage bin, but its short so there isn't much to de-tangle. I hate when I leave them behind accidentally and then I have to bust out the 50' tow rope and detangle it, its annoying as hell. the one that I zip tie is easy to unziptie, you just pull really hard, cheap zippies....

I bought an old tow hook off E-bay and mounted it near the bow.

I bought, (and hope to install them this weekend) the round pop-up cleats. Sit pretty flush until you tap them down and then they pop up about 2 inches.

Instant cleat. Will be mounting then on port and stbd hull where I can comfortably reach them from the seat. Plan on using marine grade plywood on the backside so the hull is not taking the work load.

Here is a link of what I boughthttp://m.overtons.com/aHR0cDovL3d3dy5vdmVydG9ucy5jb20vbW9kcGVybC9wcm9kdWN0L2RldGFpbHMuY2dpP3BkZXNjPVNwcmluZy1Mb2FkZWQtQ2xlYXQtZWFjaCZpPTMwODU5JnI9dmlldyZhSUQ9NjAxVDYmY0lEPVNIT1BaTExBXzMwODU5.

I am going to buy the speed ties for the RXT-X, but for my 98 and 97's I bought a stainless spring hook from Home Depot and added it to each of my dock lines. I just clip it to the rear tow loop and either of the two plastic loops on the steering column. Clipped and tied takes about 15 seconds. I can post a pic this evening to clarify.

Pull the rear plug and let it sink. It's the only way to make sure you don't get any dock rash. (lol)

Seriously.... I've never tied a seadoo to a dock. But, if it was going to be an on going thing... I would install pop-up kleets. (Polaris has loops on the steering column)

You know thinking about it, my 96GSX has loops on the steering column, always wondered what those were for!

Yeah I used to use a carabiner with those loops on my spxs steering column but I used a pos carabiner and it ended up breaking from the stress

Yep, those are the loops I use for the front, then the tow ring in the back. This is the hook I just clipped onto the dock line loop
