I have a 95 xp with the 717 engine, engine turns when start button pressed but doesnt start, it didnt run last year at all. It seems like I have a spark or fuel problem. How do I verify I am getting a spark at my new plugs? Also could I change the inline fuel filter with a clear automotive type?

Thanks

You can hold the spark plug boot just above the top of the spark plug and watch for the arc (make sure you don't have fuel tank open or are touching metal).

This lets you know the wire is conducting.....but doesn't let you know the actual condition of the plug's own spark at the gap (not a big concern for new plugs).

Te test spark at spark plugs. Can be purchased at Autozone, Northern tool or Sears

just do it the old school way...hold the plug in your hand and crank....you'll find out real quick if it's sparking or not.... if you don't use the test light method....be sure to hold by the boot....but the plug has to be grounded to metal to spark...be a jumper or holding it to the engine

Plug spark.....

I usually have the engine in a shady area, pull the plugs, connect them to the wires and lay them across the head of the engine. Then, roll the engine over. If the plug has a decent ground, you'll see the spark beween the gap of the plug........

I like jpx's way hold the spark plug boot in your hand and turn the engine over and if it shocks the s*** out of you then it has to be fireing. Just kiding Jpx as I know what you were talking about. :cheers:Believe it or not someone may put there finger over the hole where it conects to the spark plug. I have seen way worse than that.
